Tang going up and down glass

Small hippo is going up and down the side glass frantically. It's awful to watch, like an animal with it's foot in a snare.

Does anybody know what causes this?

Water parameters are all fine, temp is fine, he eats, his color is good and he shows no sign of disease. He is in quarantine (40 gallons) but no treatment yet, just observation. Plenty of hiding places and no other fish in the tank.

Its pretty natural, I wouldnt worry about it .

Do you have anything it can hide in or under?

Thanks for the encouragement and yes he's got tons of places to hide. By "normal" do you mean he will stop it?

Yeah he should.. If he doesn't within the week something is wrong. It's a new environment, he'll get used to it.

Not unusual behavior for a new fish, though can be problematic if it persists for too long.

he may be able to see his reflection in the glass and be responding to that? if it doesnt stop you could try covering the side of the tank
