Tang Ick HELP!!!

Many stores sell diffent kinds of dried algae. I use Sallys green marine algae (when I say "nori" I mean dried algae, should have specified that). You can just ask them about it at the store, they will know what your talking about. As for the mysis, that might be a little harder to find. I still think you should be able to find frozen mysis at any store that specializes in marine aquaria. Both are pretty common.

Thank you i will let you guy now around 5:15 if he has eaten some of the seaweed ( it is dryed).

I really hope he did.

You can also get Nori at a Asian market. Just make sure you get the one with no addatives, just dried/roasted Nori. It's made for rolling Shusi. It usually has a few different types of Nori made into sheets. Plus it's a lot cheapier. You can soak it in selcon or garlic if you like. There are also frozen brine that have been fortified with vitimans.

One thing I've noticed over the years and recently had confirmed by a local university is that Ich will come about due to stress. If the fish is healthy and in a happy enviroment, he can kick the ich in his own natural way. I've only had ich show up once in my tank in the last 7 years. And then only one fish got it, the others were fine. The curator at the university said he has never had it in any of their tanks. And they use a flow thru system using NSW. Nothing added to it so that they can return it to the ocean.

Just 2 days ago, I got a clown with ich from a friend. After just one day in my reef, most of the ich is gone and none of my other fish have gotten it.

Feed him well with a good balanced diet and try to keep him from stressing out. The change in color on him is a sign of stress as well.

Good luck with him.

ok i put in seaweed selects made by ocean nutrition. it has been in there for like 4 hours and he has not tuched it.

In my main tank i have 1 sixline cleaner shrimp snails and some hermits i also have a dottyback. ( and a gsp)Should i put him in my main and hope for the best for keep him in qt. he seems more interested in hiding in pvc then anyhting. Like i came home and could not find him. he was laying on his side(which i know they do) between 2 peice of pvc.

when you talk about garlic can i use regualr minced or do i have to use the marin garlc?

is there a better way to make him eat?

Dude- it may take time for him to get used to eating nori- While he is in QT- stick a leaf of spinach or romain in there.

Try freezing it, fresh, and boiled verieties. He will chow down on those most likely. My tang wouldnt eat for nothing when I got him until I got him eating spinach. He plumped up (he was VERY skinny) and now he is doing great..
Put some spinach in there.

I like spinach because you can see how much he has ate.

Your better off staying with marine food than tersitral food. Different cell structures.

As for garlic, if you can make it into a fluid to soak the food in, thne it will be fine. There is only one plant that is garlic, but it seems to be the cure all for everything. ;)

Maybe try some live brine. It's not nutrious but at least it may get him to eating so that you can move on to other things.

Good luck.

mikersx02 is right about time. Keep it in the QT and give it time to recover. Check the water quality often and make sure everything is as it should be. I'm sure he is very stressed now, but will get better with time provided you keep a good environment for him. Everything to do with saltwater and reef aquariums in particular takes time. It is not surprising that he hasn't eaten the algae, my hippo wouldn't touch it for for a week. Once he pecked at it once or twice, he realized he loved it and eats a sheet a day now.

To mike-

Steps
1. Slowly lower your salinity to .020
2. Keep your temperature at 84 degrees
3. Buy copper medicine and put the recomended dosage in the QT

============Please Note===========

You won't see any improvement in the fish's health for at least 5 days ( but the fish will actually be recovering).

well so far he is doing good ( i think) Last night he was stressing (bad heavy breathing ) salt is at 1.020

and i will add the rest of the copper treatment today around noon.

Just an update

if your fish is suffering- wouldnt you want to keep the temperatures normal so they dont reproduce as quickly?

Or do you raise the temp so that the bodies fall off the fish quicker? :)

From what i have read when you raise the temp it speeds up they cycle of the parasites life. (Which has 4 phases?) One of the phases is the parasite on the fishââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s body. One the parasite is on the body it is hard to kill. The copper in the water will kill it once they are off the body. So raising the temp makes them get off the body faster.

( At least this is what i have read. someone correct me if i am wrong please)

I went home and checked the ammonia and it looked fine. I am going to go get a new test just to make sure. He swam around a little when i was testing. I did a 1g water change just to be sure and put in some of my main tank water.

He still has some ick on him ( fins is mostly what i can see) but now he has white spots. i will try to get a picture in a bit. They look almost like wear spots some are bigger then others ( i donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know what it would look like but almost burn spots) some are about 1/4-1/2 inch spots. They do not rise off his ""skin". He is still breathing heavy.

Just an update

Thanks Mike

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped. He is very bad now and probably will not be alive once i am done writing this. I think he had more then just ick but i donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know, I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t know if i could have done more but i did what i could.

It looks like now that his "clear coat" is/has came off.

Again thanks to everyone who helped I have a lot more knowledge now for future cases.

RIP little guy

Mike

Are you testing the copper levels to make sure they are exactly right?

I have always had better success with 1.009 hyposalinity.
