Tang ID? Maybe?

Any idea what kind if tang this is? Had a few ideas but no solid answer. There's a similar one at the lfs and it's been bugging me which one it is.

Dussemer (sp?) tang. From Hawaii. They need a lot of room and a big tank.

I thought it might be a dussemer sp. But it's got a black spine rather than the white one dussemer has. And a buddy of mine has one with the classic white spine. So that black spine threw us off.

I would have to agree...Common in Hawaii, I saw a lot of adults at the Maui Aquarium, might be the largest of all Acanthurus Surgeons.

That could be it cause the store's supplier said it was an oceanic tang but everyone was questioning that.

I agree A. Xanthopterus. I was sold one and my LFS told me it was a dussumieri. He has grown from 5" to 13" in about 6 months! Definitely needs at least an 8' 300 gallon tank as an absolute minimum. I'm hopping to upgrade to a 10' x 36" or larger in about 2 years so I'm hoping mine can manage until then.
