Tang ID?

Calling all tang experts.

The above tang is labeled as a fowleri but I'm questioning this since fowleri have the sideways "v" or horseshoe behind their gills. Any ideas??

Looks like it. It will form the v tail when it's 5" or more.

Really bad pic, tough to tell. I will say that even small specimens will show the horseshoe shape though....

I agree, and this one has no horseshoe but instead a black spot, typical of a Bariene.

Is the color always dark or lighter gray? Is the spot you mentioned more like a long mark?

He changes. But mainly stays dark

I have a similar surgeon Fish but mine is usually not dark unless provoked, and has a black mark instead of a spot.
