I wouldn't put a tang in a 40 gallon tank. If you are going to upgrade, wait until that time comes and then get the tang.

If it is one of the slow growing ones, perhaps six months. However that size tank is really pushing it for even a small juvi tang.
I'm upgrading to a 40G breeder in about 3 weeks when I get back from vacation. It will be a mixed reef, mostly with LPS, lit by a Nova Extreme Pro.Originally posted by snorvich
Well, what kind of fish are you interested in? Is your tank covered?

Generally, I'm looking for fish that have bright colours, and won't outgrow my tank any shorter than within two years.
Also, since I'm upgrading, I'll be buying around 40-50 more lbs. of LR. I was just wondering how you go about introducing new rock? Should I set-up another tank for a few weeks for it to settle in? I really dont want to deal with any ich or other diseases/hitchhikers seeded in the rock, in my display.Thanks.
I havn't seen any flashers at my LFS yet. I heard they could get rather expensive, however I may look forward into it.Originally posted by jda
Just cycle the rock somewhere where you won't mind the smell - I do it outside during the nice months. The high ammonia levels are ususally enough to kill most of the pests on the rock.
If you put a top on your tanks, there are numerous flasher wrasses that will fit your criterion for fish.
