tang question

just saw an amazing tank on this site 120 with a purple and a yellow tang,i have a 125,thought u couldnt have 2 tangs together,i have a yerllow and naso,their bodies are different, so they are fine together,i would love a purple,could i get one??

I have three together--yellow, blue and sailfin--they do great
The first one in was the yellow---its the boss however==it has its territory and that all that matters to it

Three tangs in a 125 is too many IMO. I have 3 yellow tangs, 1 purple tang and a naso in a 450 gallon. Even something that big took them awhile to establish a pecking order.

I took over the basement - it's setup as a room divider.

(And yes, the sofa did have to move!)

IMO ANY Tang in a 50 gallon will become stressed. Tangs need LOTS of swimming space as they're constantly on the move and often at high speed. Even the smaller tangs such as the yellow tang eventually grows into a 8" by 6" fish. I know, I have 2 show size Yellow Tangs.

A 50 is even too small for one that is half grown IMO.

I agree Larah I would wait for a bigger tank for Tangs. I bought my tank established with a blue tang and I saw pretty quickly that it wouldn't stay healthy very long in a tank that size. I might get flamed for this but if you want a tang that bad, you might be able to get away with a yellow tang for awhile, but even that would get too large for a 50

I'm posting a thread on here too about tangs, but in my experience... I've had 2 yelllows and a purple in a 100g before. they were doing good. I wouldn't recommend anything like that though. I'm going to try out 4 tangs in a 180g. I think that tangs shouldn't be in anything less than a 75g because they don't look happy. back to the main question: I think that adding a purple tang to your yellow and naso should be ok for now. just know that the naso will get very big quick.

Everyone has mixed opinions on tangs. I have a powder blue and yellow in my 125. They're been together for the last three years.
I would've loved to get a Naso but I strongly feel like my tank is too small to house one. They should be in nothing more than a 300 IMO because of their potential adult size.

As far as your initial question, I wouldn't add anymore tangs until you plan on getting a much bigger tank.

what size are they now compared to when you bought them---I know I am buying time with mine until I need to upgrade to a bigger tank
maybe I am lucky so far but the yellow tang has not grown at all in 14 months.

I have also been told that increasing the flow in the tank will help---I have 45 gph turn over for the main tank and 65 gph overall

the tangs spend alot of time floating down with the flow and swimming back against it

There are two korialia 4's in the right corner directed down and across---this is the tang's exercise field

My yellow was about 2" or so when we got him, the powder blue about the same if that. Now the yellow is about 5-6" and the powder blue is about 6-7".
