Tang recommendation for a 75 gallon

get a dori!!

pet peeve of mine when people say "get a nemo!" or "get a dori!" i mean common its not that hard to learn their REAL name. when people call them by their name in Finding Nemo it just means that is a noob and should spend a few minutes learning their REAL name. its even sadder when a person at a LFS calls them nemo or dori. thats why i dont go to petzoo for fish.

anyways now off my rant, think i already said this but i have a yellow tang in my 75. love it to death but the only downside is its just yellow kindof boring after a while. oh well ill wait till i upgrade to get another tang.

Well you are new to salt water fish and new to reef central and you are demonstrating both in one post. That is inappropriate advice; do you have any idea what size this fish attains? Or are you just padding posts to get to the market place?

Not a dori its a hippo and thats about the size they get too.Not suitable for a 75 and some would say a 6 ft tank is too small.

I have a 75g too. I had a yellow tang, but once it hit about 5 inches it became "restless", swimming back and forth on the front glass, and it would chase all my other fish if they got close to it. I traded it back to my lfs, and spent some time looking into tangs that would work in that size tank. The conclusion I came to is the same as mentioned above, a 75 is too small for most tangs, and is borderline for a few of the smaller bristletooth tangs. I bought a Tomini, it is about 5inches now, close to its listed maximum size and very well mannered fish, no aggression toward tankmates, and a peaceful swimmer.

I would also suggest a Kole Tang (or one of the other smaller Bristletooth Tangs). I have a 2" (or so) one in my 120 and he pretty much wanders around looking for algae, etc. most of the time. Having said that, at feeding time, my Kole (still basically a juvenile I believe) can cover more than half of the tank in a flash (he will actually raise a sand cloud at take-off) and I almost wonder if I can even put a larger tang into a 120 (even though I really want a Purple Tang).

By the way, how long is the 75g tank anyway (there seem to be all kinds of weird sized tanks out there and it may even be 4' wide?) and how much swimming room is there?

This is only my opinion/suggesting and I have to admit I am new to reef central and still quite new to salt water.

Cheers,
Keith

Standard 75g is 48x18x20 inches.
