PICS TOMMORROW (crappy ones with my sk3 but a pic is a fricken pic!) thanks for reading!

Yellow tangs are cool. mine reminds me of a big yellow stallion. Long snout and head, and trots arournd the front of the tank like he owns the place. actually, he does. he's the boss. My golden palomino.

Congrats!!

Uh Oh.... any tang police in the group?... I don't think so, but ya never know...

Congrats on the add. I'm sure he will be fine for a while, but they say as they get a little older a 75-90 is the minimum size.... not that im a member of the TP, or know much about them...just an FYI
Cheers

Why are so many people down on Tangs? They've always been my favorite fish, from a reef friendly fish stand point, they have a great personality, and they would eat out of my hand.
Where does this whole Tang Poloce thing come from?

Tang Police [tang] po·lice /pəˈlis/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[puh-lees] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, -liced, -lic·ing.
â€"œnoun 1. Also called tang police force. an organized civil force for maintaining order, preventing and detecting crime, and enforcing the laws.
2. (used with a plural verb) members of such a force: Several tang police are patrolling the RC forum.
3. the regulation and control of a community, esp. for the maintenance of public order, safety, health, morals, etc.

See its in the dictionary!
If you go to the fish forum you will see them there. Their main point is a tang should not be kept in any tank less the 6' long with an open layout.

Your layout is nice and open which will be ok. I had a yellow tang in a 55 before. Most tangs get large and swim a lot. The best enviroment for them is large open tanks. A yellow is one of the few tangs I would put in a 55 gallon though. Even my 75 is getting too small for my hippo. She will need the 210 gallon soon.

Nobody is down on tangs, they are just thinking of the well being of the tang.

OK, that makes better sense, I agree they need lots of swimming room. I used to have an 8' long 220gal. acrylic tank, with a school of 5 yellow Tangs, and they would swim back and forth from one end to the other, all day long. I sold that tank just after I moved from Pittsburgh to Harleysville, PA. I moved the Tangs to a 120gal. 4 foot tank, and they were not happy with me.

Ha, the tang PoPo! I had my tang in my 55 for three years, before I got the 125. You'll be fine, Josh. Dr Mac has some killer nori down there, I don't know why (it's probably from the asian market) but my Yellow LOVES it. Much more than reef veggies, etc... And it's like $3

next time ur over at drmacs joe pick me up a pack (i think i can scrounge up 3 bucks lol) but thanks alot man i appreciate u getting him for me ...

hes doing great though...still exploring... i have a powerhead on the middle left in front of my tank so he swims towards it lets it blow him back and swims towards it again ...that should give him/her ,i guess i should say, plenty of exercise

here is 2 bad pics...

Holy hair Batman! You need a big ol' water change, and a scrub brush. Hit the rock with the brush (veggie brush is what I use) and do the water change. If you let it die off due to your phosban, it will add to the bio-load. I say scrub it, then suck it out when you do your water change.

Glad to hear he's doing well! My new additions are doing good too, but I think I'll leave the light off for a couple of days. Big Yellow was PO'd. Give everyone time to get to know each other.

I don't want to say what they are do to MY ever present fear of the Tang Police.

Nice tang Josh. Hey, the pic is fuzzy , but is that all really hair algae or some other type? Just long straight filaments or vine like or something.

I agree, take as much of that stuff out as you can. do it in a bucket, rock by rock. it will make the whole process better. if it dies it just dumps and continues to feed whats left.
