i have had my yellow tang for about 2 months now and all has been well until yesterday when i noticed some black spots on him, they look like tiny fleas. i havent had any desease problem at all in my tank before and when i bought him the LFS told me they used copper in their tanks. i checked the books i have and i cant find any good info on what i am seing, and i dont have a QT. can a fresh water dip help this problem, or should i take him to the LFS? thanks for your time and knowlage.

A photo would help us understand what you're seeing. Diagnosis is the most important step for your fish's recovery.

From your description, it could be Black Ich. Read this article and see if it matches.

If it is Black Ich, the article gives guidance on treatment. I prefer the Formalin baths/dips. If you want to go that route, here is a very good article on that:

Good luck!

thanks for the articles, it looks to be the black ich:( . it looks like today i am going to have to remove some live rock so i can get the little guy out for some dipping. i am not quite sure witch dip i am going to try yet, i do not know where to find formaldehyde for a formalin dip. i am going to have to try something today, thats for sure. any help on finding formaldehyde.

has anyone tried kick-ich(reef safe)? with my work hours i dont have time to attempt multiple formalin dips & i am looking for alternatives. freshwater dip does not seem to be affective for this case.
