Tangs feasting on romaine lettuce

Those guys seem to love it.
Romaine may be OK as an occasional snack but it should not be a staple in marine fish's diet. It does not contain the nutrients they require.

Thank you for your opinion but I would have to disagree with you there if you go on the web it will show you that this one does have nutrients and not all lettuce are the same

I agree with Stacy. Terrestrial greens aren't ideal for marine fish, but it's still a green food. It's good to vary your fish's diet for the best health. I feed my angels and naso tang mostly nori, broccoli, and spirulina pellets supplemented with Selecon, for the veggie side of things.

You have a beautiful collection of tangs. Thanks for sharing your video.

I know the video was about the tangs, but I love that school of chromis in the background.

How long have you had them, it seems like people struggle to keep more than one GC for any length of time.

Love your tank btw.

You can disagree all you like but lettuces are not nutritious. Nori is a much better choice. Nobody is bashing you for feeding it and it is a nice treat once and a while but not a staple in their diet. All look healthy

Edit: also you can go on the web and find ANY information, it doesnt make it correct. Take a look at the WIDE range of tank sizes reccomended for tangs, or the places that say they will be fine in a 50g :)

Very nice! In addition to the comments above I would add that if you are going to feed romain toss it in the microwave for 5 seconds. It gives it more a seaweed texture, I have lost tangs due to a piece getting stuck in their digestive system. The microwave breaks it down a little to solve that problem.

Awesome tank! I count 7-8 tangs? What size tank is this, I'm trying to upgrade to a 225 and would love a bunch of tangs like this.

^^This^^ Nori is the way to go; romaine has very little nutritional value. And I say that knowing I used to feed romaine to my fish all day long 20-30 yrs ago.

Hi there
I don't know why some of you guys are making a big issue out of Lettuce it is not the only source of food my Fish eat I feed them A mixture of foods I.e. frozen flake life food pellets The lettuce is only an extra source of green stuff that they seem to enjoy The only reason I chose lettuce for the video was to bring all the tanks together feeding so that you could see them instead of having disagreements over lettuce I know it's not great for them but they like it as for the other people that enjoy my video thank you very much for your comments

I have 8 Tangs in my 210 and all but my Tomini love Romaine. My Regal Angel is also one of the first to go for the lettuce when it is added. I give at least 1 to 2 leaves every day as a treat and have been doing this for over a year. I feed my fish 3 times a day besides the romaine and they are all fat and healthy. I don't claim that they could survive long term on a diet of just romaine, but as a supplement and a source of ruffage I see no ill effects.

Hi there

No one is making a big deal about it. People are just adding information so that others that may read this thread will get a broader understanding of the subject, that's all :)

Romaine lettuce has plenty of nutrition in it. The problem with feeding romaine is the fact the fish can't break it down properly to get the nutrients from it. I feed my fish romaine today and have since 1994. The trick with romaine is you need to freeze it first. The freezing causes the cell walls to burst and in return allows for the fish to receive the nutrients.

I would be one of those people. Started out with a quintet, and now appear to have stabilized at a pair. Better than just one I suppose. Not sure how to keep a group. Maybe they require a vigorous tank.

Turnip greens are great, when softened in the freezer. FWIW; the most common commercial veggie food, spirulina, is generally harvested from FW.
