im setting up a 265g rr that will be a reef tank. im thinking of going with mostly tangs in it. how many should i have and what ones would be recommended together. btw would like to add a sohal tang in the mix.

Depends on what species you want. Could you list what you want and we can go from there. Sohals can be vary nasty, I am sure people will chime in and disagree but I think sohals often are just ticking time bombs as they can turn mean really fast. Make sure you make it one of your last additions.

What are the deminsions of the tank? You should be able to have a good mx in that large of a setup. Which tangs are you interested in?

I have a
One Large disjardini
One Large yellow
2 Small yellows
one blue Regal
all in a 220 they seam to be getting along fine.

thinking maybe several:

yellow tang
regal tang
powder blue tang
lavender tang
naso tang
salfin tang (reg)
chocolate tang
sohal tang (last)

one or two dwarf angels

and maybe some small watchman gobies and/or small school of anthias

several clams

a lg. sabae anemone

lots of corals mostly softie/lps to start then sps down the road

oh yea and maybe a red volitan lion fish

its a good list but if you want 3 tangs from the same genus such as the yellow or purple (Zebrasoma) you should add them all at the same time being the same size.

From that list alone, you have 8 tangs for your 265g tank. If they are all tiny juveniles it could be nice, but as we all know tangs grow large and are major pooping machines.

My reef is a 280g and I had 6 tangs in it. It was too much for my system with the variety of corals you want to keep. I chose to only have two and my livestock is doing well and my water parameters are something I can keep in check. With a lot of tangs, that will be very hard to do. Here's a picture of my reef as a comparison:

I know, the Purple Tang was out of sight for some reason. She (my assumption) is a little smaller than the Blonde Naso named Spock.
