Tank Bred Mandarins?

Hello all,

I am sure that this question has been asked numerous times, but does anyone here know where I could find some tank bred/raised mandarins?

I lost my little female that I had for a year in a power outage recently. She was my favorite fish and I had her eating prepared foods.

While we lost almost all of our fish and a lot of corals recently, I would like to restock with as many tank bred fish as possible.

Thanks for your help!
Chris

But there are many people breeding and raising them (maybe not in the US) so i was hoping someone here might know someone that has some for sale once in a while.

Thanks again,
Chris

I researched breeding these guys when my pair started spawning, and what I learned is that they are very difficult to collect spawn, and raise them, and only a handful of people are doing this successfully.
They are pretty inexpensive fish, would be hard to imagine making enough profit to make it worthwhile, unless you are doing it simply to help from pulling them from the ocean.

Currently I'm breeding eight different species commercially and mandarins are one of them.
Profit depends on the number of couples, the success of each spawn and the price at which you sell each fish.
Of course my profit is not coming from mandarin breeding....but it helps.

It sure would be cool to see the process of collecting and raising them.
Is there a site we could see/read on this?

Oh, and...

Re: Tank Bred Mandarins?

Just as a thought about your power loss problem. What I have done is went to the local computer store and bought a backup battery that is typicaly mention for computer use. The battery is supposed to support a small desktop for a period of 2.5 hours. Only my sump return pump and my heater are connected to it, everything else is running off of the house. With that setup the battery could support the tank for aprox 5 hours. They have betters that can run a computer for over 5 hours but ther over 200 bucks. Mine was about 140 after tax.

Did you ever find a mandarin? I'm looking into starting to try and breeding some Target Mandarins. but trying to get all my research done first.
