Tank cloudy

I need help as Im running outta ideas. I changed my tank around 1 month ago. I took out old sand, replaced with new dead fiji pink sand, added a piece of uncured rock, and redid the aquascape. I also changed from using tap water with conditioner to using a full blown RO/DI unit when I redid my tank. I understand I will have an algae bloom but I don't know why the water is so cloudy. I do 5-10g water changes each week and I run carbon.

Tank is a 40g BR mixed reef. All coral and fish are uneffected. SB is covered in diatoms but not on rocks. Cyano and diatoms in refugium.

have you tested the water for the usuals? It is possible that your new tank is cycling. Water changes during the cycle may be prolonging the cycle itself. How's the livestock looking? If it is what I think it is, your corals probably don't look great right now. Post up some water parameters and a pic if possible

Parameters are in check. Nitrates were around 5-10 last week but have since dropped. All corals look good. LPS, SPS, Clams, softies, Zoos. Everything is fine and fish are happy. Im sure my tank is cycling and Ive got no problem with it, its just that I can't figure out why the water is cloudy.

Could it be micro bubbles?

Are you dosing anything?

Sand storms usually calm down after a day or two...

If i were you i would have left your old set up running while your new tank cycled for at least a week or two...u dont wanna introduce that whole bioload into uncured rocks. Not a chance in hell will premature rocks break down all the unused organics. Get a nice filter to try and buffer the water. and wait, maybe its a sand storm.

sounds like a bacterial bloom,is the water "milky"? it could just be the bacteria recolonizing the dead rock/sand

It probably is just a bacterial bloom but I wanted to make sure. Tank is milky. Its not a sand storm or anything like that. When can I expect this to go away? its been almost a full month. And is there anything I can do to get rid of it.

This might seem a little obvious, but did you rinse the sand?

Second the fact that it is a bacterial bloom.
If the initial cloudiness is bugging you, fit a UV steriliser.
The cloudiness will quickly disappear.

Do you run a filter sock? Also, is your protein skimmer pulling out anything?

Maybe you changed too much, too fast and it's just a bacterial bloom. Skip a few water changes.

Dont use a filter sock, Protein Skimmer is pulling a lot more than usual out, the cloudiness has started to go away, and you're sayin' I should skip water changes?

It's only been one month since you made some major changes (disturbances) to your system, things are definitely still balancing out. Good to hear it's beginning to clear. You haven't recently begun carbon dosing (vodka), have you?

No. Just those premade ones you can put in a HOB filter. They fit nicely in the baffles of my sump so I put them there.
