Tank cover

So I cut out a tank cover out of plastic egg crate for drop in ceilings. However when I got my light it cast grid like shadows in the tank. Not wanting something with a metal frame that could corrode and possibly poison the water. I decided I needed a custom cover and got a quote for one 16”x 18” with 2 cut outs and a feed hole with lid. I almost fell over when I saw the number. I figured I could make one with off the shelf materials for less than a tenth of what a custom made one cost.

Great idea!

Looks pretty good!

And yes, I agree the price of custom lids are insane, though I do like the Kraken Lid I got for my wife’s 32 Biocube.

Yeah I really want a kraken myself but the cost is astronomical. I'm currently using a diy type that was made for my redsea 425xl. It doesn't fit my M100 perfect, but it does work and protects jumpers. Its on the winter to do list... either DIY or Kraken.... it will probably be DIY, lol. but man those krakens are cool.

This is what I started doing years ago. Has worked great for me. Window screen kit and cicada/bug net for plants.

I went the way I did because I didn’t trust the aluminum frame with salt water and I had tubes to work around. Plus I wanted to just lift a lid to feed instead of the entire cover. So making it out of plexiglass worked for me.
