Do you guys use tank covers? Does it reduce the amount of light goin in you tank? Specially your doing a sps tank. i bought a 300gal tank from mike and paul, which they gave me great deal, thanks buddies, the cover on this tank is a clear plexi glass about 1/3 of an inch thick. Do you guys think i should be using them or just put them on the side? im currently running a 4x250W HQI, 8x65W CF..Thanks amigos...

Get rid of the plexiglass cover. Here are the reasons why:

1) It will retain too much heat in your tank.

2) You cannot use a fan to blow across the top of your tank for evaporation cooling. You can still do evaporation cooling in the sump though - but it might not be as effective.

3) If you think that your cover is alreadying blocking light - wait until you get salt spray on the cover. You will blocking out ALOT of lights.

If you need a cover to prevent fish from jumping out - then use eggcrates instead. Another option is make cover the back of your tank with plastic gutter guard to prevent fish from jump out the back of your tank.
