Tank Crash... I'm out...

At least for the time being.

I knew it would inevitably happen, because my skimmer kept breaking when I was out of town, and lately float switches were sticking throwing my SG all over... once again, I was out of town and couldn't address the issue until I returned on the weekend.

Luckily I had relocated most of my rare coral a few weeks ago to a friend's tank. However, I was hoping the rest of my coral was going to be able to hang in there until this weekend since I just accepted a job in Cranberry, and would be around to take care of the tank on a daily basis again.

Guess the reef gods had other plans though. Looks like I'll probably lose all my SPS colonies, and probably at least 50-60% (I'm thinking when all is said and done, it will be around 75%) of my coral in general.

At least I won't have to worry about a tank while I'm getting settled back in PA again though. :rolleye1:

Hopefully I'll start everything up again around the end of the summer or the fall this year.

Awww, that isn't good. Sorry to hear about that. It is always my fear as I do a good amount of traveling. Even though people check on it, you never know what you will come home to.

Yeah Kevin, tell me about it... The skimmer problems were the main culprit. I just didn't have the funds to pick up a new one, and it broke down at least once a week. Going from a ULNS state to nutrient laden water just didn't agree with my system or inhabitants. Also, I only had about 8hrs in one day around the tank a week. So it was hard for me to keep up the maintenance on every switch, probe, piece of equipment, etc...

Like I said in my first post, I saw it coming and knew it was only a matter of time.

Thanks for the offer Jesse. Hopefully I'll be up and running again sometime after the summer. At least I can completely focus on my new job, hopefully have some free time to move the tank to my new place, and clean/perform maintenance/or replace equipment. Also, I probably need to work on the acrylic tank as some scratches have appeared in my absence.

YOUR steel blue chalice is glowing slowly.

Really??? The piece you gave me is growing like a weed. Even after having a battle with the hammer TJ gave me. I'm going in and doing a major cleaning today. I really need to move some stuff around. TJ, I'm gonna put up a little frag rack for you and start to get a few things healed up for you when you get started again.

My tank is overstocked- so there is some "warfare" going on- all sps are growing slowly. I probably need to do water changes more regularly. Hence- I have free frags for you TJ. OR cheap for anybody else.

Man that sucks. I wish you would have called me. Since we have the same skimmer you could have dropped mine in. :( But, if something changes and you need to use it call me, its just sitting.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm going to be disassembling the system for storage here over the next few weeks. With the new job and everything else, I can tell this summer is going to be crazy, plus I need/want a lot of new equipment, so I'll take another look at the situation in the Fall or Winter.

Chris... The bubble algae kept clogging the skimmer intake, so it wouldn't have mattered. I do have your pump/impeller assembly still. As soon as I get the tank drained, I'll get it back to you. I moved back in down the road from that gas station across from Shop n Save.
