Tank crashing due to Zoa Toxins

Tek

Mr. Vu
I was in a rush to finish fragging corals after a long day helping my buddy move to a new home and forgot to rinse the mother colonies before placing back into the display. I came home from the frag swap with slime covering most of the corals and it has killed at least 1/3rd of my corals. Lesson learned and now it seems to be killing more corals and my new frags. I changed 20% of the water and placed some carbon into the flow. Anything else to help?

In the zoa forum, people often talk about dipping their zoas in ioding (lugols) or revive (for other types of coral) to relieve stress in situations like this.

Tek, That sucks... I have some lugols if you need it. Also my son and I traded with you on some green zoas for some eagle eyes. I hope your eagle eyes make it, they are some of the best I have seen.... If the green zoas you got from me don't make it let me know and I will get you some more. I kinda felt bad when my son came back with that big eagle eye frag from you....I already fragged it in half. Maybe it's a good thing I got a big frag, It would suck, but at least I can get you started again on the eagle eyes if you have to. Hope it clears up for ya, keep us posted.

The Zoas seem to be just fine. The new Acan, birdnest, and some LPS are having issues.

I have plenty of those bright green skirt eagle eyes and it was a fair trade. :)

For the acan and other lps, the revive may help just to clean them and give them a jump start.

The birdsnest, you'll have to watch for rtn/stn. If it starts, you will have to frag it soon or lose it.

You also may consider shorter lighting period or actinics only for a day or so and let the corals rest.

I had the same problem last time but it killed my pink zoa colony. I learned to be really careful make sure not to cut the zoa in the middle.

skim like crazy, water changes, and carbon. A revive dip is not a bad idea either if needed. keep a close eye on them all. Sorry to hear it!

The water changes and carbon seems to have saved the rest of the LPS. The birdsnest is gone, but I have frags of it in my frag tank. The slime from the Zoas only killed/hurt corals it managed to touch, but the crash killed one of my new acan frags.

Quick work on your part probably saved you from losing more.

Sorry it was as bad as it was.

My sailfin now has a fungus or a bacteria infection after this. I hope this is the last of the issues since everything else is recovering.
