Tank Dimensions For Bandit Angel "Species" Tank

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at starting a new tank that will mainly be to house a Bandit Angel along with SPS.

My question is, what dimensions would be ideal?

I want a smaller tank, kinda over big tanks.

Was thinking something like 60x22x20". I know they aren't swimmers like tangs.

What do you guys think?

BTW: Kept a Bandit before, but in a 10 foot tank. Also never touched coral.

I bought a 120 (4x2x2) for the specific purpose of housing a "œpair" with a harem(5) of either Anthias or chalk bass and nothing else. Probably 70-80 lbs of LR. I'm sure they'll eventually make their way into one of my larger tanks. But it will be their home for the next few years.

Looking at the room I want to keep the tank, a 72" might be best.

Not sure if I want to go 72x24x24, or maybe 72x20x20.

Going to use the same builder that made the 470 for me, but do glass this time. He makes great tanks and has become a friend.

I went from 135 to 200 to 300 and now back down to a controllable standard 180. Much easier to control versus the 300. Good luck with your new tank

What would you say on dimensions?

Really anything I can dream up can be built.

I was up to running the 470 + 200 gallon sump and 200 + 75 gallon sump frag system at one time.

My wife is still on the fence (more on the other side) of me starting up a 1xx LOL.

I'd say go with the standard 180. The dimensions are great for a "reasonable" size tank. Still pretty huge by most people's standards but you may find it pleasantly quaint. :0) Plenty of room for the bandits too.

What I didn't like about the 300 was the 36" in depth because I could not reach the back of the tank. Plus I did not like the plastic cross braces. If the tank would have been 30" deep and glass bracing like my Planet 180 I would probably still have it

I think mine was 31", it's too tall to be honest, just makes it a pain dealing with anything near the bottom. I'm tall and have long arms, still a pain. Would rather have more depth than height TBH.

If I could get a "big" custom tank made, I would be tempted to do it a little wider...maybe something like 72L x 30w x 24h

Yeah last tank was 29" wide, gave a lot of room to aquascape with.

If you're already doing a 6' width, maybe just go with a 300DD. Not too tall and the 36" depth gives you SO much room to aquascape.

Thanks! Kinda getting excited about it. Feel sad looking at one pics and videos. Just don't want to get too big and hard to take care for again. At least not at this point in my life.

So when are you starting on your new 180 gallon project? Oh yea here is a picture of my 158 which was 60" x 24" x 25". The Imperator was 6" to give an idea what a 6" fish would look like in a 5' tank. I ended up selling the fish and then the tank when we moved offices.

Tank builder is busy till the end of the year, so after that

Yeah I need to take some time and tape our different tank sizes and positions and see what works best for the room.

We're thinking of taking a front office near two guest bedrooms and turn it into a "lounge" type area for guests staying with us, so they don't always need to be in the livingroom.

Funny enough, I used to have my 200 gallon shallow frag tank in there :hmm4:

Might be more possible now with how we're arranging the room

Was going to center the tank under some shelves, but now my wife wants the shelves on a different wall she wants to have wallpapered. That will allow me to push the tank into the corner of the room and allow it more space.
