Help needed with tank. Here's the issue 180 gal Reef with 75 gal sump, Came home to find my tank white can't see back of tank. Tank is 1 year old transfer from 75 gal.(which was set up 2 years)
Water specs- - Cal. 440
DKH 11.2
Mag 1245
PH 7.8
Temp 78
Salt 1.024
Ammon. .3
Why did I get a spike? Last water change done 9 days ago 65 gal. Do to Nitrates and phosphates.
I have carbon hooked up in reactor and getting 100 gal. water change ready. Local reefer lotus02 had 35 gal and brought to me, as I only had 35 gals ready, they also brought me some Purigen to run in the sump,, got another 35 gals on it's way from another local reefer as soon as they get home from work.

My question is will the large water change do more damage or help my cause?
Any advise to help my cause will be helpful. TIA

How much Live rock in your system do you have?

Notice any fish missing lately that would cause a spike.

Sounds like something may have disturbed your sandbed which caused the whiteout and ammonia spike.

I have about 250 lbs of liverock in the tank.
Only fish missing is a small Pyramid butterfly (about 2.5"- 3") vanished about 2 weeks ago. When I noticed it gone that's the other reason I did the 65 gal water change 9 days ago.

No don't drip kalk as I have a calcium reactor.
Yes I have caulerpa in the fuge , it's still healthy.
Local Reefer lotus02 has been trying to help me brainstom my delema asking all kinds of questions. Making me remember a rock colapse a few days ago(causing a sandbed disterbance) ,we are wondering if this would cause the problem. lotus seems to think so.

Did your calcium snow on you? If my mag/alk/cal get a little out of wack, it looks like Colorado in my tank.

I think the point he was getting at was it might have gone sexual...
