Tank envy

I recently bought a 60 gallon cube used, came with 4 fish i liked and a few corals.

The more i look through other threads the more i wish i started a 20 gallon or something from scratch. Buying a used tank has came with a lot of headaches as well as i almost feel like i cheated by skipping aging my live rock and picking out/adding fish slowly.

So before i overreact and buy a 20 gallon tank and try to sell mine, what can i get with a my current tank that i couldn't have in a smaller simpler set up.

More fish for one. It depends on the species you choose, but a 20 doesn't hold very many fish comfortably. You can also grow a greater variety of corals since you have more real estate to work with.
If you really want to start over, why not sell the livestock you have now and start fresh with the 60?

Yeah idk why i just feel like it would be simpler and easier to have a 20 gallon tank with 1-2 fish. My original plan was for a 40 gallon tank but i found a really good deal and got a 60.

I just wish i would have started with a 20 gallon tank, heater, and a powerhead. Aged live rock myself. and then upgraded to a 60+ when i got a place of my own. Apartment now and i know i will move in 2 years.

True i feel like i could sell what i have for more then what i paid for it, if i parted it out. But then again i would probably want a new tank in a few years. also would hate to give out the livestock i have currently as i like the fishes i have. like i said maybe i am just overreacting.

Just get another tank, if you are addicted you will soon anyway.
Figure out a place to put it, and then plan it out.
Small nano or large FOWLR or something in between.

No matter what tank you have it is the wrong size and you think the next one will be perfect.

If you are moving in 2 years then if you started from scratch your tank would be just hitting its stride then.

A 60 is a good size that many people enjoy.

I just set up a tank from scratch (I paid $500 for my first 90g with everything included). My new setup (only 42g) was way way way more. Like 4x as much.

But it was fun to do it my way. Definitely cheaper to buy it the way you did.

This is normal and will be a common theme... I have several tanks ranging from a 125g all the way up to a 625g and I have tank envy too. Hell there isn't even water in the 625g and I want bigger. I have a problem though

i no sooner set my new tank (150 long) on the stand, than i thought to myself "crap i should have gotten something deeper front to back".

to the OP: you can always trade fish, rocks, corals, etc... away and get different ones if there is something you like more. this hobby for me is an ever evolving series of activities and goals.

from a maintenance perspective, a 20 gallon shouldn't be too far off a 60 cube, and having the larger water volume will help you get started by allowing for more stability and tolerance for changes.

oh, and i get tank envy every single day. i just look at the tanks of the month on here, and i'm scraping my jaw off the floor.

Ok so tank envy is normal :|maybe i just dont like my current setup/aquascape. I might redo the aquascape to have something i really enjoy.
