how often does everyone have to clean the glass i have to do it every other day. what can i do to make it so i only have to do it once a week. its alway a light brown dust that is on the glass

My 90 gallon reef has been up for a year and a half and I still have to clean almost every day. It's usually brown or sometimes green dust.

yeah its always a light dusting unless i dont clean it then it gets thick. just annoying wondering if there was a way to get to slow down or stop all together

I lessened my photo period by an hour and it was better but I still need to do it every few days.

green haze here. Gets noticeable after 3 or 4 days. Usually corresponds with PO4 levels. Higher PO4 = faster microalgae growth.

Low nutrient levels and less light on the glass. I probably have higher-than-typical nutrients but I only clean the glass every few weeks at most, thanks to the highly directional nature of LEDs and the 4" wide opaque (plywood) eurobrace that shades my glass. Not much light hitting the glass means not much algae on it.

I have to clean mine about every 2-3 weeks.

Nutrient Levels
Water Quality
Direct Light
Ambient Light

All of the above play a part in how often you have to clean your glass. Low Nutrient systems tend to have to clean a lot less.... when I was running ULNS I never had to clean the glass but my coral suffered as well.

im just now getting my po4 in check through a new skimmer and gfo. my cyano is just about gone with just a few patches left. im going to change the gfo. this should be the trick im hoping i only feed every three days nutrients shouldnt be that bad. and what does unls sorry im still new and learning lol

The film on my glass varies depending on my maintenance. If I'm due for filter sock change, water change, or activate carbon change I get film. I also notice that it gets worse as on of my t5's approaches 11-12 months.

Nitrates and phosphates. The less food that alge has to consume the less growth. less is better in this case. I have had a no fish system that still needed phos/nit adjustments due to the amount of corals I had. I guess is kinda like cleaning your house!

ha ha the float mag is a magnificent invention. i never thought about it but when it is time to change the filter sock it gets worse. i am going to change it once a week from now on. should i have the water from the tank go right into the skimmer then the sock or the sock first then the skimmer just thinking about wich one would be better.

Has anyone tried the FloatMagnet with the scraper attached . It's pretty expensive but looks interesting . Wondering how well it works or if its worth the money

actually.. it's inexpensive.

Purchase the EZ scraper and glue it on a Mag Float.

This is what to use on corallines. Every serious reefkeeper has this tool.
