tank going through mid life crysis ?

so I told my wife to do a water test while im at work, past 10 days no issues everything has held steady with one 10% water change 3 days after the move

now today :

calcium - 500
alk - 9.6
ph - 7.6
nitrates - 5
nitrites - .1

lmao yep....

the tank and most of everything in it has been running steady for the past 5 years. only thing I removed was the old sand and 20 pounds of base rock

added brand new live aragonite, 40 pounds kind from petco in a wet bag and 10 pounds of dry sugar fine. and added 20 pounds of bima direct live rock, and 30 pounds of tukani ultra premium

sump was never cleaned and all of the water that was with the tank stayed with the tank
sump is really a wet dry filter with bioballs. it has worked for the past 5 years so why mess up a good thing? I would like to take it out and add a 20 long sump with a good skimmer but money forces me to use whats available. and the skimmer is so under rated for the tank that it could be part of the issue.

I would add some buffer to raise the PH and start adding some Brightwell Microbacter7. Sounds like your tank may be going through a small cycle. maybe do another 10 percent water change as well.

give it some time and try not to do too much... simple water changes and regular maintenance will slowly fix the problem.
