The blues are taking off nicely.

The first zoas in the tank are doing great.

I'm sure you've answered this before so feel free to point me in the right direction.... I really like your pictures and I'm (still!) trying to get better shots. Do you mind sharing what lights are on and what settings you use to get such good pictures? Thank you!!!!

Thanks, Darth!

jacob, don't think I have answered that. We have T5s & moonlights. We don't run both at the same time. I shoot with the T5s on & use the flash too to get as much light as possible. Things farther back or in weird spots in the tank don't come out as well. I'm lazy, I just use Auto and the "macro" (little flower) setting LOL. Sometimes I have to manual focus, like with the spaghetti worm legs. I've gotten to where I put it on manual, then just move forward or back until it's in focus & take the pic rather than try to adjust the focus ring myself.

Some of the shots up there, as mentioned, are shot under just the moonlights but using the flash. I get a good color pop that way while still lighting up the entire coral. Those are also using Auto. I try to get as much of the coral in the frame as possible, then crop if I need to to bring it in closer.

Awesome corals and McFatty is the coolest goby I have seen. My LFS hasnt had them that I have seen. One question for you since you have both, I accuired a piece of live rock thay had what I thought was a shroom now I think it may be a green zoa whats the easiest way to tell? Sounds silly but I am just now cycling my first Saltwater tank.

Mushrooms don't have "skirts" on them like zoas do, and are also much larger.

These are zoas.

These are mushrooms.

This is a mushroom (the large red thing) with zoas at the base (the small orange & green things).

Great response! Thank you so much, very helpful. Your recent award was well deserved!!

The tank turned 2 years old on the 11th, for its birthday I bought it a fox coral :lmao:. I've been wanting one of these since we set this tank up. Got a good deal on this (half price) at our fav LFS because it had fallen on another coral and it burned half of it off (half off, so really not a sale, but better than full price for half the coral!). I'm calling it my "scratch n dent fox coral" LOL. I'll be watching the "dead" half to make sure there's no flesh there to make a comeback. Once I'm satisfied there's not, I'll cut off the dead half so it will fit better in the space I'm putting it in (the only space I can, poor 55 is full!).

This was taken immediately after putting it in the tank. It's opened up a little since, but I'll wait to see how much it opens tomorrow to take more pics. It was open very nicely at the LFS. Very exciting! This and the white branching bubble coral that I also got today & put in the 20L on the bar were the last 2 corals that I absolutely wanted.

The area where I put it. If it does well, it's eventually going to really fill that area up...hope all the zoas move over. Not sure what will happen with that darn devil's hand.

And just a fun shot I got the other day. I was standing & feeding and Spot got herself in just the perfect "spot" to put on some lipstick! :lmao: Unfortunately I wasn't quite over far enough to make the shot perfect, but I was afraid to move.

We've been having a red planaria flatworm outbreak (well, worse than normal) and the yellow coris isn't taking care of it at all, so last night Blue Velvet was added. It's been feasting pretty much constantly, even in the acclimation bowl! I think the flow is a little much for it, but so far it's held on & not gotten blown away. It's happiest when the pumps are off for feeding. Once it finishes off the flatworms, we'll sell it to someone else.

The "end" result. :lmao:

The Green Star Polyps have had this branch out for a while. It was just getting close to the overflow, which is where I originally wanted it growing...

...and of course it turned away.

It's getting heavy enough now that it's about to touch the top of the next branch of the rock.

The cabbage leather is continuing to take over the top of the rock.

The fox coral is doing well so far. It eats mysis some days.

The cup coral is insane. It's completely overgrown its frag plug. It loves to eat, sometimes even snails if they fall in LOL.

The galaxea is still growing. When the first piece of food hits it, all the tentacles start waving. It makes me smile as it waves "hey, feed me, feed me!" :lolspin:
8193402457_cf4652bc2f_b.jpg

The psammocora completely encrusted the surface of the frag plug that was above the sand. I moved it up out of the sand so it has a little more surface to encrust before we have to start looking for a rock to place it on...or watch if it encrusts over the sand.

Both trumpets are still growing, only took a pic of this one though.

The hammer has grown amazingly. It completely fills this area now.

The 4 new acan heads are crazy. Sorry for the crap pics, but the camera flash won't fire. I had to move this because a mushroom edge was touching across the top of the original head. You can see the crease across it in this pic. All of the heads eat mysis.

I took this pic of the algae that appeared before I pulled a lot of it out, dipped it, and put it in the 10 gallon quarantine tank. It was shading my Armor of God zoas and they were shrinking. The stuff grows crazy fast, it's already growing more. Not sure if anyone would want any of it, but that's part of why I pulled it.
8192959121_b0a2b54a7b_b.jpg

No idea what this was. Found it in the tank one day after work. I pulled it out & it was very thin and tissue like.

Looks like a molt. Do you have crabs???? :D It does look like the starfish wanted it. I'd have let him have it!!!!

Don't have any crabs that would molt like that, just hermits & none are big enough. It was way flimsier than any molt I've ever picked out of a tank before LOL. That was my first thought, though. Only 2 shrimp in there, both with red in their molts. It was mostly a ball shape.
