tank leak

I just noticed that I have a tank leak. It is in one of the corners of the hex and am wondering what to do. It's not very much maybe 1 drop every 5 seconds.

Can silicone go straight into a tank that is set up?

WIll there be any harm to the inhabitants?

Should I lower the amount of water in it and then fix the leak and fill it back up?


Any help here would be great

Oh, that is not good. New tank? It might still be under warranty, if you got it from a lfs you can call in for help.

I'd start pursuing tank replacement at their expense if at all feasible. I take it the leak is near the top. Knowing how water travels, sure it's actually from the seam, not traveling down the rim from the pump or some such?

But if it's a new tank, they should stand behind it and get you a new one, not try to fix this.

no bought this one at a garage sale for 5. It's right in the middle where the two seems meet. One thing that I did do it seal it from the outside . It stopped but that really doesn't reassure me. I think that I will start to look into another one. Maybe more of a custom look to match the stand that I built.

You could ask in the DIY forum. I'd be afraid to use the tank, because I'd worry about the seams failing, but a tank builder should be able to help. I'm not qualified.

can you imagin 24 gallons of SALT water on your floor??? I will not be pretty,

I would be heading to the closest LFS and getting me a new tank.

That's just me though. it would freak me out!
