Tank mate(s) for Achilles Tang

I have a 250G tank with mostly coral. It does have 1 clown happy in it's anemones and a fairy wrasse. Any other inhabitants are small and live in and around the rock, corals etc. I was thinking of getting another fish or two for the tank. The Achilles is about 4" and he's been that size for quite a while. Plenty of room in there for others. He is of course the king in there and even jousts with me and my glass magnet. Any suggestions? Thanks

Any suggestions?

Leave him in the ocean.

Seems like these are the hardest of tangs to keep. I know many experienced reefers who have tried under ideal settings and failed. I'd like to see this fish out of the trade entirely.

This is the 2nd one I have had in 20+ years. They are great and been a joy to care for. Very hardy in my experience. The only reason my first one went is we lost everything in the big ice storm years ago. Getting a new young Achilles was the first new fish when I rebuilt. He has been great and grown big and fat just like his predecessor.

Halichoeres wrasse may be a good choice. You can get them pretty much any colour, they are generally peaceful, quick, hardy and they will dive in the sand if the achilles goes after them.

What type of haliocheres? Haliocheres are not fairy wrasses. Fairy wrasses sleep in the rocks.

Then maybe I am mistaken

Yep. That's a Haliocheres Melanurus not a fairy wrasse :)
Sorry, was a little confused because your original description had a fairy wrasse in it. My mistake!

I would highly recommend the Cirrahbulus wrasses. Or "Fairy" wrasses ;) in a 250, shouldn't be a problem and most of them can hold their own.

I would do wrasses, but anything you try to introduce that the Achilles feels is a threat may not turn out good, 250 or not. Just my 2 cents.
