Tank-O-death

Verry sorry to hear about this man. You setup was by far one of my favorites. But like you said, this gives you an oppertunity to do something a little different. Cant wait to see the new setup:-)

OMFG!

Nooooooo not my idol tank!

I need some time to myself to reflect on what I just read...

OK, I'm over it and cannot wait to see your reef rebuit - bigger, better stronger, faster!

Sorry for your loss, P-Stop

Sorry for the misfortune and loss. It was my favorite reef tank and a true work of living art. I have it listed in my Favorites. When it is reconstructed I'm sure it will surpass the old and become a new inspiration to many reefers. Mile.

Man I am so sorry. Your tank was an inspiration in doing the build I did. There is a lesson though that we are all learning here from you. Wait until you have extra water ready and make extra water when you do pump maintenance or anything else like this.

Again man so sorry but your attitude like others are saying is also inspiring!! in the face of a challenge you grab it head on and wrestle it to win!!

So sorry to hear this. Your tank was the best looking tank I have ever seen. Let me know when your tank is stable again and I will ship you free frags.

I just read this and I was feeling sorry for the guy who I thought probably had a few nice pieces that he lost. Then I read who wrote the post (I didn't pay attention to it at first) and I nearly had a heart attack!

That is absolutely horrible. This is one of the greatest tanks in the world. I hate hearing this.

Your attitude is admirable. I would be suicidal as I can't even fathom having a tank like that much less losing it.

As heart wrenching as it is you should document the loss and the rebuild.

Good luck on everything,
C.G.

Steve

OMG is exactly the thought that came to mind when first reading this thread!! Steve I am sooo sorry to hear this, I feel awful, your tank is an inpsiration to all aspiring reef keepers. Absolutely outstanding, again my sympathies. I know this scenario all too well. I lost my albeit small 55g last summer, all my sps and have not yet returned to the hobby yet, but I'm working on a major come back! Any help you need let us know, myself, and the entire reef keeping community are standing by ready to help you. In no time I'm sure you'll yet another outstanding reef. Yea the bright side is being able to reaquascape, which we all love to do. Atleast you didn't loose your fish, I lost my mated clowns of 4 years( breeding) scirbbled angel, yellow & purple tangs, flame angel, black cap baslet, and many more creatures.

my empathy and sympathy.

best wishes
David:(

I always try to find the bright side in the face of adversity....in this case:

1) I'm going to save a ton on reactor media.
2) My cold tank is doing great....I can always look at that instead
3) no more AEFW's
4) no more red bugs
5) I guess I can reaquascape now
6) I'm now a buyer for sps heads
7) I have a vacation coming up and I won't have to worry a lick about the tank.
That is some amazing perspective and wisdom given what you've been through. The vacation will allow you to step away, re-think things and come back when you're ready and better than ever!

Steve,

That's just a horrible thing to wake to, I'm very sorry to have read you had such problems. I have no tank right now so I can't help you out. Sounds like you have the right attitude though.

Your list of things on the bright side did make me laugh though. :)

Best of luck my friend.

These kinds of things can and do happen to everyone every once in a great while. Nobody can foresee everything. At least you know what went wrong. I hope you can recover from your losses and persevere, Steve. Your aquariums have always been an inspiration to me.

I have appreciated the well thought out system that you have created with time and energy put into accessibility and maintence.

I think tinkering and designing a system, is one of my favorite aspects and what keeps my interest. My worst fear is getting to a point when "its done". Thankfully like Hot Rods, tanks are rarely done, and when people get into just upkeep rather than building the system or collection they loose a little interest......I know I would.

I am going to go on a limb and say I think you are a little happy about this because it allows you to start anew and possibly go in another direction while at the same time heightening your interest in the hobby.

Any changes you want to make?

But then again, why mess with perfection?

I've gotten a lot of inspiration from your tank, and now I'm learning even from its tragedies.
Sorry about your loss.

Maybe its cause you're from Portland, but you sound kinda Buddhist in accepting the loss and moving forward. :)

Steve, my biggest fear was what you had predicted was the achilles heel of your tank (the closed loop in the base of the tank). I was really expecting you to say one of the PVC fittings gave way and drained the tank.

I can't fathom how you must have felt pulling out those enormous corals that had died. I would not have been able to post what you did, with a list of positive thoughts. Your tank is world-famous.

This is a sad day. :sad1:

Wow. It's terrible to hear your favorite tank has crashed.

Steve we've never talked etc, but if there's anything I can do let me know. If you're looking for some corals i'd be more than happy to help out.

eric

I can't believe it. It just goes to show you that no matter how careful a person is, accidents can still happen. It's a wonder I haven't nuked my own tank yet...
