Tank plumbing, cannot get a syphon.

Hey guys I have a main display tank plumbed and a sump side by side, my main tank is drilled on the side and the return from that is going into the very left of my sump. It basically looks like the picture I have supplied. The diameter of the hole Is 25mm and so is the plumbing, I just cannot get a syphon to save my life, please help I am lost . I forgot to mention the tanks are about 1.5m apart, thanks for any suggestions. I can provide more pictures tomorrow.

The tank itself is about 200-300mm higher than the sump.

Way too horizontal. You need to raise the display and or lower the sump. Closer would help too.

Siphons work because of gravity. You've eliminated it from your setup. I would suggest NO LESS than a 45 degree angle between the two tanks, preferably 90.

Basically as long as the output is lower than the input it can work..
Gravity still applies there..

I'm glad you finally got it going.ls there any specific reason for mounting the sump that way instead of keeping it below the tank??

Make sure you have your return pump hooked to a float switch in the display to prevent a flood. It may work now but as it ages things will need adjusting. Really cheap way to prevent a disaster.

It's been running for several days without an issue, tested shutting of power and letting it start a syphon by itself and it works every time. I got sick of bending over to do maintenance and having to use a shop vac to clean the sump, so this was my solution. In the future I will most likely plumb a third tank and have storage in the middle.
I thought the angle was too low, thanks everyone!
