im not sure how to put this, when they say tank raised they were born in the tank & has never seen ocean water, if so do they just know to find a host, or is that something they pick up in the wild because thats what they see? do non tank raised clowns feel more free to do so. if that makes sence

thats what i was thinking because i have two true percula tanked raised & they stay close to my power head,

i have a tank raised female. when i first got her she only stayed near the powerhead. I think thats because its all she ever saw

she never wondered in the rockwork. i bought an anemone and she RAN to it

i got a wild caught juvi awhile later. he dove right into the rockwork in and out of all the holes n such.. then he hosted the nem when she let him....

mow i cant get them OUT of the nem lol

First let's get the terminology correct.

Tank raised(TR): This is where larval or small juvenile fish are collected in the wild and then raised in a captive environment, aka a tank. I highly doubt there are any tank raised clownfish in the world.

Captive Bred (CB): This is where the fish are spawned, hatched and reared all in a captive system. This is what most people mean when they say "tank raised or bred".

BTW, these are not my definitions, they are legal definitions for trade.

CB clownfish have a built-in instinct for hosting, even after many many generations, they know where to live. Don't buy into that wives tale that CB clown will not host, pure BS is all that is.

thats what i thought TR ment they were born at the LFS mine were so small when i got them, mabey i just didnt understand them when i got my clowns, either way ill try to put something they like better besides that power head, but there again i may put a BTA in & they may not like it at all,

Captive bred definitely know what an anemone is:

i didnt know that many clowns could be in one tank, i think you may need a bigger host, i like that color clown, the black ones are nice to, once you have a certin color clown can you mix them?

It is not generally Ok to put more than two clowns of the same type in one tank. I currently have 18 or so anemones and 26 clowns in a 210 gallon. The clowns are still young and are all from the same clutch.

How are those pearleyes coming along?

Thanks. I never got the pair back. Owner couldn't catch them from his reef tank. I'm just raising these youngsters now. No breeding pair.
