Tank Raised Latz

My lfs has a connection for tank raised Latz. he got a pair in yesterday and i went to c them today. Wuts the deal with the misbaring of these captive bred clowns. From wut i've been told its happening on every single tank bred Latz. Any ideas on why this is happening?? Dietary, mineral, or elemental deficiency possibly?? I'm still considering buying them because i was offered them at a fabulous price, but idk if i like the half missing center stripe.

how do you know that it wont grow in when they mature?...my perc's for example came to me with only 2 stripes and now have 3.

No its not happening with all Latz.Very few however are coming out full bared, about <12 per batch.I think it happens due to the food fed and really just do to the fact they are captive.Look at all the captive clowns that have mis bars!I dont think the bars will grow in.Its not common for clownfish to change barring patterns unless they are young fish under an inch or so.My store 2 hours away has a connection for the Latz at $340.But I woul rather spend moe to get full bars!

Just proves that more research needs to be done regarding clownfish breeding. I think food makes a huge difference. Remember that in the wild, less than 1% of larvae survives to adulthood. Which means that the strongest, most well fed and hence most colorful ones reach to a prestine specimen to carry on the genes into the next generation.

I'd agree that food and water quality play a big part, but I think the thread touching on natural selection is the largest part. As an example, the clowns in my most current hatch (all hatches for that matter) that are the biggest never have any mis-bars. They share the same water and eat the same food. True, they might eat more and switch off rotifers to brine quicker than others, but that's natural selection to me. JMO.

Maybe latz have weaker offspring. I don't know - never have been fortunate enough to have a pair.

Ok, so we saw the ones on divers den and they look tatered.

I am seriously considering a 4some of latz, all misbars. For the price while i dont agree with it, its the chance to have BLUE LIPS that dont cost 400 a peice.

I also dont think the bars will fill in but they may fill in a little more.
