I'm going to have a male / female pair of japanese swallowtails in a 125g 6ft reef. I won't have many other fish and I have tons of algae and sponge. Tank is approaching 1 year old and is well established. I believe the pair will be shipped in 2-3 weeks from bluezoo.

They'll be my show fish.

Well, it has been mine. I have a mated pair of Bellus and they definitely use the entire 8 feet of my tank.

IMO we need a better measuring tool than that, because other than a few well know fish, like clowns, that naturally keep small territories (and plenty of exceptions there) most any fish will use the entire tank to swim around in, regardless of size. My friends bartlett anthias were all over his 300g tank. I'm not going to say bartlett anthias require a minimum 300g tank.

I tend to agree here. Fish definitely use a much larger area in the wild then we can provide, but I don't think that should mean we shouldn't be able to have them.

thanks for all the great input and all the information should be very helpful to everyone now :fish1:

now if only Conspic were more common, is the Gray Poma pretty close in appearance?

No.
Nonstopfishies thanks for the picks makes a awesome thread even better this should get stickied or at least the tank size and pics part.

Thanks.

I think the Gray Poma and Conspic look very different. Conspic angels have an amazing bold beauty to them while the Gray poma is pretty dull. Obviously people are drawn to the rarity of the Conspic angel as well being that it only comes from one remote location.

I found a good picture of a Maculosus Juvenile.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to nonstopfishies for putting together that awesome collage of Angelfish. My dad and I had a 500 gal large Angelfish tank back in the day. We kept some of those fish for over 10 years... Man did they have personality! Sure brought back memories and even a tear to me eye.

This thread is amazing. So many angels in one page. It makes me want to duplicate the size of my aquarium so I could choose any Angel I want.
