Tank Top

After thinking about it forever and beating my head against the wall, I decide to get other people's opinioons. The tank top will be 96" long by 36" width by 30" deep. I going to use 400Watt halides in lumenarcs, but How many lights would you use. Keep upkeep cost in consideration, but I not opposed to using 4 lights.

Right now I'm considering a 2 opening top with a total of 4 MH and 4-8 Actinic (depending on MH temp) or a three hole design with 3 MH and the same actinic. Do all of you feel the extra light will give that much more light thhat it is worth the $$$. Just looking for opinions if they are the same as mine or not. There are many ways to skin a cat

Dan I would just use three of the large lumenarcs. They will cover a 3x3 area just fine. Sure there will be some shadows, but it makes the tank look better IMO.

If you don't like a tank with that look, then go with 4.

PS.... I haven't had a chance to get those impellors to Jamie yet. You will get them though. ;)

i run three SEs on an 8' long tank with homemade luminarc type reflectors and the coverage is good - no really noticable shadows. i also have 2 DEs in between the 3 SEs that come on for a short time in the middle of the day for a little added kick on growth.

I have that exact dimensions on my tank. Just mentioned yday to a friend that the tank seemed a bit dim on the ends. I have 3 -400's with Luminarcs with VHO's in between the reflectors. Think it depends on what you are keeping. SPS...you might want to go with 4...softies or mixed tank 3 should work.

Here's a pic of what I did.
