Are you going to add a lip around the top of the stand to cover the stock trim that comes on the tank?

Nice job with the router.

Yes, there is going to be some trim around the top. I didn't put it on yet because I wanted to be able to get the tank up and over the top. It is 39" high and I felt that it could be an issue if I installed that final trim to soon. There is enough room to install a small ledge and some molding to hide the tank trim. I think I am going to try my hands at making my own doors too. I figured out some tricks for routing the edges of the boards after they had already been rabbited out for the panel to slide in. I found out that my bearing on my router bit would drop into the slot. It messes up the edge detail real fast as soon as that bearing drifts in to far. I made a little biscuit to slide into the slot so I could route the edges. It works great with the little piece wedged in there to fill the void. I was definitely out of practice on the router. Good thing for having a bunch of scraps laying around to make test cuts on.

I got the hood off tonight with the help of Jeff B. here in Medina. I pulled out my tunze pumps and moved them to the frag/temp tank. I moved my soft corals and couple of my expendable SPS down tonight as well. I had been delaying putting corals in since I needed the DC8 that was under my 180. I freed it up this evening and got it all wired up. I have 2 aquamedic 250's in place to hold things over.

Another tank move

Another tank move

As far as i know this friday evening is open. I'll know more towards thursday.

Coo.. We could order some wings and have a few beers :) I'm thinking around 6:00 or 7:00. Anyone else interested in some beer and wings? I am thinking 6 guys for this move since the tanks have to go through the sliding door. Two people need to be inside to safely bring the tanks through. The old 180 needs to come out first to make room. Then the stand will have to be put in place for the 300 and leveled. Then the tank can be set on top. I am curious to know how much settling will occure once the tank sits on the stand. My living room floor is a concrete slab and it already has a slight pitch to it. I am sure the carpet will do a some squishin.

Are you going to put foam on top of the stand to help level it?

The top is pretty level. I have one spot that may require a shim or two. Being that the tank has a framed bottom. It doesn't require any type of flat base or foam padding.

Do you think I should add something.

Hey Mike, where did you get the rubbermaid sump. I have been looking for one just like that.

I bought it off a guy from Columbus. You can find them at any tractor supply. I thought I saw someone on either the C-SEA or CORA board listing a used one for sale yesterday.

Here it is - 100 gal 50 bucks 7 months old

I used the foam on my 180 and it helped a lot. It might help you setting that big tank on carpet. After the weight compress the carpet a level stand could get un level quick.
I was just gonna add that if you use the foam, wait a week or so after its filled with water to trim it out. Give the foam time to really fully compress.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I'm hoping the weight of the tank will be enough to settle it into the carpet. I intend to take a close look at my 180 tonight to see exactally how far the floor is sloped and in what directions.

Man, I can not wait to see this thing fully stocked.

I had a great time, thanks for the tour of the fish room also, now all I have to do is convince the "boss" to let me go to town on my own.....

I thought tonight was going to be the night to turn my return pump back on. The water level in the tank is 1/4" below the top trim piece. I need another 50 gallons and it should be good to go. I spent the day finishing the top wood trim on the stand. I had a few frustrating moment with my 45 degree mitres. Dropped a few F bombs and went back to home depot and got some more trim. It turned out really well.
