Tank Upgrade!!!!

Wfell, After a long and tiring day we managed to pick up my tank from Gary. I would like to thank J St James, Gary G., and last but not least SteveL( I gotta get my tools back) . The tank looks great and I will be working on it this week

I see the sump fits nicely....I especially like the adjustable brackets that keep the sump from bowing...thats one of Marty's original ideas. Plus the bent corner design is easier to make and we never had one leak-ever.
Lets see some pics of this thing flowing!!!! When do you expect to get it up and running? George

I will get some pictures up as soon as I clean out the tank. Oh and Jim remember "We didn't get lost, We took the scenic route" thanks again guys.

George... I am hoping to get water in sometime this week maybe tues or wnds.

Rumor has it that you guys made it to Marine Oasis.....

Jeesh...I've missed out on a lot lately. Been crazy busy. I am sorry I wasn't around to help out with the tank this weekend John, but you can bet I'll be stopping by sometime this week to see how things are going. Cabinet looks AWESOME from the photos!!! I'll see ya sometime this week. :)

Hey Rick whats been going on? long time no see!! give me a call, I might be needing help placing the canopy upon top of the tank in a few days!!!

I have decided to build a overflow box and install it on the rear wall of the tank. The tank came with a 1" and 2-1/2" holes drilled 1' from the front glass. I am going to run these lines along the bottom and then up the rear wall inside an overflow box with Durso's. I am going to run a 1" return line ( powered by a Pan World 200ps) outside the rear wall and split it into two lines for each rear corner. I am considering placing sea swirls on these lines. Additional circulation will come from 2 Seio 2600's and 2 Seio 1500's , If that doesn't blow the gills of my fish I guess nothing will . I do have a question if anyone might have a suggestion. I am looking for a "glue" that I can use that will allow me to attach the overflow (acrylic) to the real wall of the tank(glass) something that will be safe. I will get some pics. up later today.

I need a seal between the glass and the acrylic... I really don't want water seeping in from the sides or bottom. I would have 200+ gallons of water on the floor in the event of a power outage.

I used silicone for my acrylic overflows --> glass. There is little to no load on the joins and the seals are going strong a year later. I used HOB acrylic overflows on the outside. Silicone will not make a loadbearing joint with acrylic, but it will seal nicely and hold for a long time in a non-loadbearing capacity.

Well i used silicone to "glue" in the overflow. It seems to be holding well. It doesn't have to hold alot of pressure ,just need to make a watertight seal, so I am thinking it will work. I have most of the plumbing finished. I just need to hook up the return (Need to buy 3" of 1" pvc). I am going to plumb my Calcium reactor and Chiller off the return. .

Cutting the teeth for the overflow was easy due to a jig I made. The spacing is not perfect but that is due to my crappy eyesight. Worked like a charm and is good enough for goverment work!

I hope to get water in by tomorrow or friday!!!

Zanclus,
The picture over your tank, is it a puzzle? My daughter and I just did that one over the weekend and framed it also for her room.

The overflow looks great. I cant wait to see it filled with water, corals and fish! It has been fun to tag along watching you create this beautiful system!

LOL that is so funny... of everything I have been doing you noticed the puzzle!!! LOL. Yes it is a puzzle and I have to find a new spot for it.
