Tank water height higher than usual

You could always remove some of the water out of the sump return to your "normal" level and see if it stays constant. If it still fluctuates then you may need to troubleshoot some more.

Your pump is definitely pumping more than your drains can handle. I can simulate your problem with my bean setup by cranking back on the drain gate valve. It will raise the water level significantly in the tank. My sump can handle anything that might drain out however and I have it balanced where I need it.

My guess is that you have something stuck in your drain. And/or like was said above, your pump was not running at full speed and the restart jarred something that was stuck in the impeller and now you are getting more return flow You are not running a full siphon so you don't have a drain valve to fiddle with to adjust flow so you may need to put a valve on your flow out of your pump to crank back the return rate to get balanced again.

Well the sump level is not high..but the display which is why I am confused.

Fishgate- I think that might be the answer. I need to look at my drain, perhaps it is clogged somewhere, although it is hard to access. I will have to get at it when I come homefrom work.
