Tank without a sump?

Ok lets see if i get this

1 live sand
2 skimmer
3 live sand/chaeto/plants
4 live rock as it gets pumped back to the tank

If i just drill two holes close to the top and plum it like this will it work? How well will it work?

Don't believe the anti canister filter guys. I would ditch the bio wheel filter and run a second canister filter on the other side of the tank. I put a bag of chemi pure elite (in a tray after carbon runs out) and a bag of purigen at the very top (on top of filter floss). I have a marineland c360 on a 75 gallon tank...large bioload of fish and every type of coral. I have a HOB skimmer rated for 100g. I clean my canister every THREE weeks and water parameters are perfect. I check for everything and never have to dose anything but I am prepared to if needed. Bought BRS two part dosing system and never used any of it yet. Nothing against drilled tanks but my system is proof that you don't need one.
I also have a bubble tip anemone and two 48" usa orbit marine led lights....about $200 each. No need to spend over $400 in lights unless you want to. I have lps, sps, softies.....Canisters hard to clean? LOL Pop the top off, pull trays out, dump water out of canister and rinse trays out, replace floss and put back together. Less than ten minutes once every three weeks. The real downside is a possible leak but that's why you check it every day and mine sits in a shallow 5 gallon storage bin in case I get a slow leak. The clamps and hoses used today are very durable...you're not afraid to take your car down the highway worried the radiator hose is gonna come off. These hoses and seals aren't flimsy. I bet people have WAY more spills with their auto top offs. If I were you I would just get a second canister filter like the one you have and clean one of them every two weeks and alternate the carbon or whatever you run in them. Or clean them at the same time. My filter cleans every gallon of water in my tank four times an hour. Proper powerhead placement and two good canister filters plus your skimmer will be good enough. Try it and see.

LOL , This thread is over 3 years old . I don't think it would be a meaningful
post unless the thread is somewhat current .
