Entertainment-wise I like it. Long term concerns with the systems they set up. I'm certain they've got it covered, but setting up an entire system overnight....gotta be some pitfalls.

I like when they skateboard on the tank... that's great for the shark and the powder blue tang. :headwally: I hope someone from our URS makes a more responsible show at tanksshow on fb. :D

Yeah just watched the Reef tank they set up....goes to show you, if you have enough money you can get whatever you want. I wish they didn't make it seem as easy as pour water sand rock and dump coral and fish all in a day because that makes me worry people are gonna try that. But from a technical point the tanks are really cool, as for the cheesy acting....that i can live without.

I am sure that skateboarding on an acrylic tank will never ever scratch it, since that is what they are known for, their scratch resistance.

As for the show, Randyo might chime in since I heard through the grape vine he met them at macna.

I tell people to watch 'Cake Boss' instead. It's the same show, but at least they don't put marine organisms in stressful environments.

I would love to see any of these systems one year after they've been set up.

Pffffffft.

A year is generous, I want to see what they look like 48 hours later.

It is also starting to create problems with new customers coming in and wanting whole setups to take home that night. It is hard for them to believe what they just watched happen does not actually work.

Many details are left out on the show. As many necessities to run a marine system. You cant just throw 20 fish in a brand new unestablished tank and expect them to thrive.

I feel like they were just cut out of the show, as they never covered CUC or cycling the tank. Its likely they may not set these up in one day, because that would just be asinine. They probably, at least for the reef tank just cut it together to make it look like its all put in, in one night. I wouldn't imagine these guys could keep getting business if 2 weeks later peoples 10,000 tank implodes.

I agree with everyone that the set up over night is not good and they leave a lot out but let's be honest its tv and i am sure that they cut a lot of the stuff out.

Those guys make and maintain some of the largest private tanks in the country. If everything died in a week, they wouldn't be in business very long. That said, I just don't see how you can throw 30 fish, the likes of powder blues, achillies, etc into a brand new tank without some fall out. New tank parameter swings, algae blooms, ich, et al. They must make a MINT in charging for replacement fish, constant, daily maintenance, while the customers sleeves never get wet. I'd bet most of the business service is done at night too. You telling me that lawyer is gonna have guys scrubbing plastic corals during business hours?

Anyway, its nothing but impressive from an entertainment standpoint. The fake lottery tickets and hot sauce payback is pretty GD funny.

The characters are entertaining. The acrylic work is skillful, intersting and fun. The plumbing looks nice.
If you try to set a tank up with tap water, freshly mixed with salt ;skip acclimation and quaarntine for the fish; the tank won't look good for very long. I commented to my wife who enjoys the show that these guys are fun but they seem to be killling a lot of animals .If they are doing more responsible things for the animals they should highlight them a bit.
Some of these creatures have lifespans of 30 plus years; keeping one carries significant responsibility . I watched the "fung swei "episode. The tank owner planned fir energy to emmanate from the center of the home with a reef tank,;uh huh;with the mix of corals in there and the way that tank appeared to be set up, the only thing emanating from the center of the house in a bit of time will likely be the odor of sewer gas.

I'm certainly not saying it hasn't happened but which episode did you see them "killing a lot of animals?"

I think it's an entertaining show. We enjoy some "reality tv" in our home and are entertained that there's now a show that mixes that genre with our hobby.

Didn't see it. The practices as portrayed would lead to it, such as adding and array of fish and in one case corals to an uncyled tank within minutes of adding salt to tap water would lead to it. If they are doing more for the livestock, I wish they would show it even briefly. I enjoy the show tooi;t's fun but not realistic and does not promote responsible, husbandry, imo.

I have yet to watch more than a total of 15 minutes of 'Tanked'.

Their business MUST be legit but cropping for TV (which ALWAYS happens in reality/nature film productions) can leave viewers with the wrong impression of what's involved in setting up and maintaining an aquarium.

That being said, I think a show such as this can be very good for the hobby IF done properly and responsibility/education is stressed.

I would love to see them place more emphasis on the stresses facing coral reefs.

I have not watched a full episode yet, not really a tv person. But from what I understand all reality television is actually fake. The behind the scene stuff is edited out. I do know the fish business and how to set up a fish tank. They would not be in business if their aquariums were no successful. No matter what the budget may be if fish keep dropping like flies and there is someone servicing it only one face to point a finger at.

I also would like to point out that there are two main groups of aquarium owners. Those who like the creating and maintaining part (all of you and me) and those who just want to look at fish. There is nothing wrong with it but they made the show for the other group. The mass public who likes to look at pretty things on tv. If they made the show for the other group I would consider getting cable at home. But the truth is boring geek stuff doesn't sell and that a reality.
