"tanked" the show

I find the show entertaining (not educational). Its like all the other semi reality shows out there. They show you some real stuff and the rest is a set up. Like the circle ray tank episode. They make a huge tank put a couple small rays in that hide and then they act like its a major problem because it looks lifeless. They call the shop and all of a sudden they are unloading dozens and dozens of fish for the display. I am sure every fish was picked ahead of time for that tank. The best part of the show is seeing some nice tanks that I will never be able to own. They have never shown the system aspect of these tanks so its hard to say what they have going on, but thats not the point of the show. We (reefers) are not the target audience. They are trying to entertain not educate.

Here is the link. How many fish you think are in there?

hahahaha see all the people DEFENDING them in the comments? People are so clueless. I don't care what they do behind the camera, that is way too many fish for that tank, and that's that.
And they obviously didn't make it for the animals' convenience...I know a lot of those fish would rather be swimming side to side, rather than up and down... :deadhorse1:

Its not hating, son. Its about responsiblity. And with the kind of thinking of they cant cycle every tank, then a construction worker should think, I cant make every house level. A cook, I cant make even dinner cooked properly. A cable guy, I cant get everyones tv working properly.

Is that how you would like the world to work?

Secondly, I could care less about them or the company. Its about actual life. Its about these animal depend on us to house them properly, give them a suitable home. Why? Cause we put them there. The people that are their customers, I can guarantee you, they dont. They have money and it would be no big deal for those customers to just go..."Oh give me another one, if it dies, Ill get another"

And honestly, yes you could cycle every tank you set up. They just dont take the time, nor tell the customers that cause that is not something a customer will take when they want "now"

Its a business. Don't lecture me on how to do jobs right. I've owned my own cabinet shop for 33 years. To them its a business. If they all the fish died after they put a tank in wouldn't that hurt their reputation? Im sure the fish do fine. So stop judging by what you just see in the show. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes. We don't know what they tell their clients and what they don't so don't make the assumption they don't tell them anything and just leave.

I agree with you 100%

Ok Mr cabinet guy. Your missing the point totally. If you go to a customers home and they say they want this and its either not going to work or for the price or not available. This high dollar customer is going to walk away and call someone else. Yes it is a business. But a business that has to do with lives has to be taken with more care. You gonna go buy a dog you know came from an inbreed puppy mill? Probably not. And fact is most business as long as they get their money and can caress the customer into feeling ok then it wont harm their reputation. Dont even come at me like that. Ive dealt with worse customers then you can ever dream of.

I think you guys are being hard are them. obviously they do good and make good tanks considering they are the number one tank builders in the world. They need to make money to stay a float they can't cycle every single tank that goes out the doors. That would take them forever just to get one paycheck. Im frankly jealous of their jobs. Im sure all of you are too. So stop hating on them.

PLEASE... my goodness... your right about one thing and that is it, they are tank builders, not proper system and healthy enviroment builders... they are completely irresponsible and misleading, directors as well as the guys on the show... and the show is a bunch of crap... a complete disgrace to all of us responsible and care taking hobbyists...

this show makes we wana slap a fool, and puke...

I did like the show. It was entertaining. You guys are quick to judge and missing a point. Business with high rollers - Very reliable wholesaler, healthy acclimitized fish, large canister filters, live sand, ozone, strong UV, enormous skimmers, fast cycling bacteria, lower salinity... Why fish should die??

This show doesn't teach you how to set up a SW tank any more than American Chopper teaches you how to build a motorcycle.

FWIW, if I were a non-reef oriented TV producer and I had to build a TV show around tanks with the proper amount of fish in them I'd start looking for a new job.

I think you are missing the point of this hobby. This hobby is for us to keep fish healthyand happy in our home systems. What if those where puppies? What if someone had tons of puppies crammed into a small space. I believe that is called a puppy mill? Sure, they are alive, but they aren't healthy and happy. People would hate the show if those poor fish where cats or dogs in similar conditions.
It's not right. And all those tanks with tons of huge fish crammed into small tanks we see on RC ( where people post their tanks, or someone on youtube has it ), the show Tanked is encouraging them.
