Tanked....

Just saw the show and it was meh. To much fighting and not enough fish and tank stuff. But it is a reality show and you can't expect too much

the car aquarium was really cool looking though. The pay phone one though. I kept thinking during the episodes, OK, they look cool now, but what about maintenance? Look how tall and how many fish were in the phone one, can you imagine keeping the acrylic clean in such a tall, narrow tank? Also, some of those fish they put into a newly set up aquarium? Well, I guess their clients since they spent $$$$ on the tank would spend $$$$ on the upkeep? Did you see the $30,000 quarantine unit? If that quarantine unit cost that much what did the tanks cost?

I also wondered what those shoes in the "cement shoes" was leaching into the water, LOL.

:headwalls: OMG look at what their top 5 residential saltwater aquarium fish are!

http://animal.discovery.com/videos/tanked-top-5-saltwater-fish.html

1. clownfish (quote:because of finding nemo)
2. a group of blue tangs (because of finding nemo, never mind that the fish they showed in the video were stressed and one had HITH)
3. triggerfish (quote:so many different types and active)
4. Damsels (can start tank out with?)
5. Sharks????? (good with young guys, celebrates, athletes? omph when you look at them?)

Geez, don't even think or talk about size, aggression, compatibility. Most residential aquariums aren't the size to keep the fish they mention in their top five. Come on, sharks????????:uhoh2::headwally: I can just see a new hobbiest trying to put all of the listed top 5 in a 55 gallon tank because of the show :headwalls:

Also, wonder how long those damsels can stay together before they start killing each other off?

Also, their motto is "the customer is always right" which means if they want to put two fish together that shouldn't be together, they'll do it?

Here the show can do so much to educate the public about many of the misconceptions out there, and they are adding fuel to the fire.:headwalls:

it's a cool show, great crew, but it looks more like highlights on each system. It would be better if they could go into more details on each system, like equipment used and such. Personally i would like to see shows like la fishguy show on tv.

+ 1 !!!!! On both comments

+1, and they should also cover what it takes to maintain the fish and the aquarium too.

My main concern is that they show brand spanking new tanks getting filled with tap water and salt mix getting immediately fully stocked.

Yep, what's worse they were mixing the water in the tank on that mob tank and the fish were waiting in the boxes at the side!

So much wrong coming out of this show for people not in the industry or not in the hobby and for the potential hobbyist. I've said before, just puts the hobby in a bad light. It may be entertaining to watch, but it does none of us justice. :(

Thats edited and some of part of the show is act, so i dont believed that they will risk their business by putting the fish right away

Did you see the one where they were making the mafia style tank for the hotel? They had the fish in the shipment boxes, and they were filling the tank, but they only had hot water and the tank temp was 90 which they said would kill the fish but they needed to get the fish in. Since it was a hotel they got a bunch of ice to bring down the temps and mix the saltwater in the tank for the fish to go in, scary! (using hot tap, ice cubes, mixing saltwater in the tank, leaving the fish in the boxes, putting the fish in right away).

Yet all of a sudden when they go to put the fish in they're wearing different clothes... get a clue. It's called editing.

ie notice when they're going to show the other family the phonebooth to see if they approve, the guy is leaning on the tank that's going to be used for it. Do you really think they'd build that without getting a thumbs up first?

Just a random question, since I've never had a FOWLR system... Would coraline grow all over everything like the phone in the booth or over thw acrylic that has the tv screens?

Then we should blame the network for bad editing. I know someone is going to disagree, while the show is "entertaining" to those who don't know better can easily make mistake by following the "edited" version of the show.

Only if Coraline is introduced to the system will it grow

But how edited it is?
Surely there was no significant time between the hot water and the fish addition - if there was, they could have skipped the ice and let the water cool naturally.

I guess I just don't see goodness coming from putting boxes and boxes of fish into a newly filled tank with newly mixed saltwater. Being generous, perhaps they pre cycle the filtration and plan to do water changes every day.

Regardless, the story they are telling is that you can set up a tank and fully stock it the same day, which is a conception the industry has been fighting forever.

Oh - anyone worried about the squirrel fish and chromis combination in the phone booth tank?
