Tanker trucks, a bump in the road, and my new Maxima.

Well I just put in my first clam today (3" blue maxima) and noticed a small problem.

I live near several large oil tranfer facilities and a railroad yard. I have trucks going by all hours of the day. Every once and awhile they hit the bump on the corner and my Maxima flinchs while my house rumbles a little.

I am hoping it gets used to it and this does not stress it out too much.

It also does this when fish swim close or I move too suddenly near the tank.

This is my first try at a clam and I was wondering if they adapt to their surroundings and retract less over time.

They will do it whenever a fish swims above it.
They aren't flinching at the fish per se, they flinch when there is a drastic change in lighting that they sense; shadows, bright light etc.
It is a defense mechanism.
