Tankmate suggestions please

Hey guys... I have some fish in mind but would like to hear others suggestions... Recently I lost my maroon clown and just last week for whatever reasons my blue jaw trigger kicked the bucket as well.

Either way I want to add a couple more fish back to the tank(1 between a months time of each other).

Tank size is 90 gallons

Tank mates:
2' sfe
3" hamlet
2" falco hawkfish
2" flame angel

Again I just want to add maybe 1 medium 1 small, or 3 medium sized fish that would work with the ones above. This is also mixed reef.

Thanks for the help folks.

Nick

IMO given that you have a hawk and a SFE you are not overly concerned with loosing hermits or snails so I will suggest one of my personal fave's a Picasso Trigger. Very interactive, tough and would fit well in your semi-aggressive tank.

believe it or not the sfe doesnt bother with the hermits and the falco takes one or 2 out a month at most...not big on eating them i guess..

thanks for the picasso but their personality quirks are not worth the risk....WAY to many horror stories of just going ape ****e and taking out the rest of the tank..

thanks for the recommendation though

Really? I guess I'm on the other end of the spectrum then. I've had 2 over the years and never once had a problem with them attacking any other fish. I believe it is all about the tank size (for swimming room and things to do so they don't get bored), the other tank mates and the order of introduction. Get' em small'ish, put in last'ish and put with other semi-aggressive fish. The first and last parts you have covered. A small dogfaced puffer would be fun and would represent the same risk to the inverts. A Niger trigger or other Rhinecanthus species would also fit the bill. How about a Marine Betta? Generally reef safe but will eat small fish but I'm guessing yours are not small enough.

sorry bout that...but yes its a snow flake eel.

lpsluver....i have read where people have had them for 4 years ands then came home to find the contents of their tank dead...others had them for about 5-6 months and then they just went haywire...

The funny thing about the picasso or humu humu trigger I found recently was from my trip to hawaii. they seem to be the loners or outcast..I saw schools of pinktails hanging with hawaiian black triggers in massive quantities yet I found the humu humus roaming by their lonesome selves.... I truly love em but don't want to chance it especially in a 90.

Fair enough... (thinking...)...It's a reef tank so the majority of the BF's are out. I guess you could try one of the smaller angels. No personal experience with them in a reef but I've read they are okay. You COULD do a Bellus Angel (a male/female pair would be awesome). They are odd ones. This species has the female as the better looking of the 2. I change my vote to them. Forget about the Picasso.

I've read that about Clown Triggers, but not Picasso Triggers. Our Picasso is super-cool! The fish acts like it's a dog or a cat or something! Very funny! Doesn't really do much against other fish. I have an Odonus Trigger, Picasso Trigger, White-spotter Puffer, dog-faced puffer, columbian shark, zebra eel (who STILL won't eat), rock blenny, and they all seem to get along.

Believe it or not, the only one that does ANYTHING to the others, is the Rock Blenny, who darts at the Odonus Trigger every now and then, when the OTrigger gets near "his" rocks!!!

Hope that skimmer of yours works really well. That is a large bioload for a 72 gallon tank. Keep up with those water changes too!

WOW!!...dude I hope you are upgrading...72 with half of those fish is alot on the bioload...if it's a fowlr it would be forgiving. All those fish you listed are suitable in a 150 and thats about the limit.... It's not to bring you down or insult but man I have a euro reef cs6-2+ rated for 135g on my 90g simply becausemy trigger and eel I had were a huge hit on the bioload along with my coral inhabitants.

For longevity please accomodate those fish in a tank size they deserve :)

LPSluver... I figure I might look into getting a flame hawkfish to add with the falco and maybe a pseudochromis/dottyback...
I would add the neon but heard they can be a pita and I remember gasman having to get rid of his as well...

Blah my current fish make it a pain on choices considering my tank size.. this blows.

Yup, yup, yup. Tank shopping as we speak.
Looking to get into about a 120-135G or so.

They are all still pretty small.

Oh, and yes, it's a FOWLR.

Just a bit of caution. I wouldn't mix hawkfish. They will more than likely fight to the death. There are some awesome dottybacks but be careful. They can be, pound for pound, really mean fish.

If you're into hogfish then the Diana's is really nice looking.

Don't get Dottybacks. I've got a pair of neon Dottybacks and all they do is bully new inhabitants or other fish, including angel fish much larger than themselves. Too scrappy... I've always liked the hogfish or a Panther Grouper if you're doing FOWLR.
