I have a small miniatus grouper, about 5 inches, that I got about 3 inches a year ago, that I want to keep. I have a huge indian black trigger I was going to get rid of , but may change my mind. I have 3 4 inch yellow tangs and a coral beauty I've had for 4 years . Also a bird wrasse and a small Toby. This is a 270 4'x4' tank. I just lost a harlequin tusk, my favorite fish.
I am having trouble coming up with ideas for what to add. If I keep the trigger, he is a large aggressive fish that might have trouble with any new fish. But even if he goes, I was told the grouper would rapidly grow to about a foot and eat anything half his size unless it was added first. This has proven false, as a few damsels in first have disappeared. I have no idea if the grouper is going to get bigger or not. But that rules out any fish under 6 inches, angelfish and tangs.
If I got the trigger out, could a lionfish work? Or would the toby be a problem? Also thinking hepatus tangs or large angels if the trigger goes.
I might try a maroon clownfish, if I can get a bigger one.
