I would like to start by saying THANK YOU to Richard from TBS. He seems to be a great guy with an awesome company. If you are in the need for true Live Rock and Critters look no futher than TBS. I found him on this site by prior recommendations and glad I took the time to read them and contact TBS. (Please Read On)

I contacted Richard right before Christmas and told him of my plans to set up a reef tank (Red Sea Max) for my son and I to enjoy together. Richard was more than helpful in advising me of everything I would need to get started so when it came time for the LR to be shipped we would be ready. He was even nice enough to get up early the day after christmas to have my shippment flown out right away.

Package one arrives....
Great base rock, In my opinion this is better than the live rock you could buy at your LFS as premium LR. I set up the Live sand and LR and things began to dig out and make themselves at home... Tank settles for two weeks alot of growth and finding new critters everyday.


Package two arrives....
After contacting Richard and informing him of our status it was time for #2. When I got home my son and I opened everything up and all I can say is WOW>>>>>>>:eek1:

Richard has truely out done himself. We did alot of rock scaping and started into the bags of critters... It is truely amazing all that Richard sent and the care that has gone into his packaging. I dont think we even lost one snail...

So in closing If you need real live rock look no futher, because you have found the KIng of Live Rock (Richard The Great). From our experince you need look no futher than TBS. As my son would put it, THEY ARE BEAST!!!! LOL

It looks very good......you may want to start manually removing some of the feather caulerpa from the rocks after awhile. It grows very fast under the right conditions and can smother and overtake a tank if not regularly pruned, in addition to the risk of it going asexual and all dying off if it gets too dense. I usually use the tip of a wooden skewer to break the roots free from the rocks and then gently pull.

Even after careful inspection of every hole on the live rock... I have unexpected guest... I think I have 2 or 3 Mantis Shrimp lurking about when lights are off. Besides the click click my son pointed out several badly damaged snail shell were left behind after an apparent all you could eat buffet the last two nights.
 
Actually your pictures are quite good, and your aquascaping is artistic and natural. Just goes to show you that an engineer can be artistic! :D

what will you do about the mantis shrimp?

LOL..... Remember this is a father / son projects so alot of the artistic eye credit goes to him. Im Just the engineer guy with his hands in the tank.

Well as a matter of fact I believe I have one of the little bugers cornered as we speak. I caught a small mantis running across the sand and he went into a rock close to the front of the tank. I was unable to get him out of his hole and he has no back door escape so I now have him blocked in by a trusty wooden chop stick. Man is he ****ed, you can here him strike the stick at least once every few minutes.

So now what do I do from here???? I cant take the rock out without seriously distrubing the surroundings.
 
...remove the stick and let him be.

I left my mantis alone in my tank. (At one point, I counted 6 individuals) I rarely see them anymore. They've never caused any kind of trouble.

I MIGHT be able to attribute a couple of hermit crab/snail deaths to them. I KNOW that they killed a few gorilla crabs (because I watched them do it).

Other than that, they've been no trouble at all.

Certainly a good way to get rid of the Gorilla crabs, and keep an "interesting" hitchhiker fed.
 
Is all what we see growing or atatched to the live rock come on the rock? I have never seen the green plant like or is it a plant in any set ups before.Is it hard to manage I think I'd rather not have it but it shure looks good the way you and your son set it up. looks like looking right into the ocean. I have a 75 gal plan to get package to set it up from Richard . I talked to him last year but just have been getting the hardware I need little at time with the budget set aside for this hobby. As we all know hobby is an empty money pit.
 
Everything you see is straight from Richard... The green plant has taken off and grown more each week. I have pruned it back and unrooted it from rocks that I prefer it not be on. I definately like the green coloration to the tank and the decorator crabs love it. I always see them over ther uprooting some and placing it on their shell and legs. The rock also has chicken liver, and tubercules that are neat that I have never seen as well.
 
Thanks spider like i said i know where i'm going to purchase my package. you mentioned you scraped the rock .Richard told me i didn't need to do that it would damage life on the rock. so why did you end up scraping ?
 
No I scaped the rock like in aqua scaping / design. I didnt actually scrape the rock with tools. Just make sure when your rock arrive you check every hole with a bright flash light if you want to weed out those pesky Mantis Shrimp.

By the way just added our first fish (2) SMALL CLOWNS (Lighting & Bolt) Hmm can you tell Im a chargers fan. GO CHARGERS!!!!
 
Neither had I and was glad I found TBS. My wife calls me overly cautious on purchasing things, but there is nothing better than customer feedback to tell a true story. Have you taken the time to read TBS website about the whole process and what they went through? If not I highly recommend it, its great reading. Give you a better understanding of what Richard actually does and the HEART & SOUL he has put into his company and conserving the enviroment.
