Tds > 300

I've been buying all of my water from the lfs, they have catalina nsw that i've been using for water changes and what i was though was ro water that i've been using for top offs. i recently purchased my own ro/di filter online as well as a tds meter. come to find out the ro water from the lfs tested over 300 tds. thats even worse than my tap water which is around 200. needless to say i will no longer be using their water, as my ro/di is testing at 0 tds.

Just thought i would share and vent a little. Just another example of why you can't trust your lfs.

So was the > 300 reading on the LFS R/O or the NSW that you thought was R/O?

If it was supposed to be actual R/O at more than 300 TDS, my guess is that you got the waste water. Interestingly, this is not the first time I've heard of a LFS giving out their R/O waste

the lfs ro water was >300.

maybe a stupid question, but can you test saltwater with a tds meter?
No, that's a good question. I have not ever tried, but I "assume" that you could. Thinking about it more, I'd imagine that the reading would be so high that you'd need a meter that would give you a 4 digit result or you'd have to test with a diluted solution.

Hmmm...I'm curious now.

Maybe you should say something, to them, once a guy that was working at our LFS changed the R/O membrane and cartridges, he took off the tubing to unscrew the housing easier and put them back in the wrong way....the reject line was hooked up to the reservoir and the production line was going down the drain. It took two weeks before I was sitting in the break room eating my lunch and glanced at it.

So before you decide they are un-trustworthy, consider the possibility that somebody, (or maybe all of them), is an idiot. lol

that sucks dude, gratz on your new R/O unit though!

ltz,
andy
