tds reading?

Is it possible/probable that my tap could read .074 ppm tds using county water which is treated at a big plant?

And

When I set up my typhoon III rodi 2 weeks ago, and tested at least one dozen times, the meter read the tap at 180ppm tds.

What's up - should I try new batteries. Meter is only a couple weeks old.

My tap water is 100tds, after a Brita filter it is 50ppm and after ro it is 2ppm.

Are you sure it isn't 74ppm not .074ppm. That is ro/di level.

jpitts101 - it was already put together. Didn't even see the membrane ....... although I don't think touching the membrane would make a difference would it?

hodsgod - good call, I did mean 74, not .074 but that still seems real low from reading what other people have. I'm not complaining - just want to be sure it's accurate. I will get some distilled tomorrow for a control like you said.

yes it will, if you touch the membrane the oils of your skin will mess it all up ( speaking from experience) had to order a new one but if it was already put together i wouldnt worry about that

jpitts101 - how freaked out is that! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be careful if I need to mess with the membrane.

A change in incoming TDS is normal. Water quality changes day to day or hour to hour depending on treatment techniques, water sources and blends, storm events, chemical feed rates and changes, even individual operators in the plant. Mine can vary from just under 500 to over 1000 TDS on any given day. Last week it was averaging 735, yesterday it was 881.

74 is wwithin the "normal" range - consider yourself fortunate.

I'd not be too concerned about touching the RO membrane - assuming your hands were not filthy when you did.
