Teardrop Maximas!!!

Unarce

Unshackled
I got that email from Aquatic Gallery, saying they received some rainbow teardrops. Has anyone gone by to check them out?

I asked them for some pics, but no one responded:mad: If you had a chance to see them, let me know if it's worth a trip:lol:

TIA

Karl

I was there about a week ago and saw several tan/gold colored teardrops. They were very nice looking but would not use the word 'rainbow' to descrive them. I almost bought one.

Phong - Let me know what I missed out on. Bring a camera, too:p

Jacob - I got the email Thursday night. They were supposed from that mornings shipment.

just went in there today. there definately was'nt any rainbow to them. very expensive also. i seen a large colony of orange ricordia on a rock and asked how much it cost, they said that bao le was asking $600, dollar's for it. "yike's" that was enough to scare me out of there...

hey bro, yeah I went in there too the other day and I thought they looked off to me; as far as color goes.

I can go in there and snap pics if you'd like....call me up

Hmm, were you guys able to get a look from the top down? If there's really any color, that would be the best way to see it.

I do agree, though, that they're pretty expensive. But, it is a nice place to replenish your critters/clean-up-crew.

G - I'll call you;)

I got some great deals the last time I was down there. I mentioned that I was from the Brentwood area and even received a "travelling" discount, for having driven so far :). That was on top of some "deal making" over a sweet crocea and some selections from their frag rack. The fish I bought were a little higher priced than other stores, but AG had them in stock, no one else did (I called around for 3 weeks straight for this one). All in all worth the extra, especially for the great service that I received and I felt all in all a decent price for what I walked out of there with :)

I was curious about the rainbow maxima but I left a little bit dissapointed because it is no way they are rainbow color, nice tear drop pattern yes but main in golden brown 4-5" clam. Not worth a hundred dollars to me.

100 bucks seems like a fairly reasonable price for a teardrop from AG, although I definitely agree that the place is way overpriced.

All About Fish in Pleasant Hill also had some gold/tan teardrop maximas (and one or two that almost looked silver in color). Very nice patterns and appeared healthy. I almost took one home, but recalled reading some time ago about a very high mortality reate for teardrop maximas, that plus right now all but one clam is taking up residence in the prop tank awaiting the new tank getting set up.

Anyone have any new information about the TD maximas mortailty rate being high ? Is that an "old" concern that is no longer valid ?

Thanks :D

P.S. The clams at AAF were betwen $80 and $100 I think... for about a 4"-5" clam. But then again clams have never been exaclty cheap at an LFS (I get too spoiled by clams direct :)).

I think they'll always be high, Tom. There were major problems with collection methods a couple of years ago, but maximas are the least hardy to begin with. Considering that all teardrops are wild-caught and arrive in more mature sizes, they're going to be the least hardy of them all.

This is why colored teardrops are a premium.
