Teddyzaper's 25g Mr. Aqua cube build

Butterfly. Unicorn. Cupcakes. Pie. Flowers. Gum balls. Candy canes.
Haha, sorry too tempting. For shiz that sucks a giant pair of monkey junk. Patience is virtue, just think of how it will be when the whole project is done. I really like everything that's done so far. I can't wait to see it fully stocked.

thanks! im trying to salvage the bulkhead and overflow, but tubing is all being replaced with flex to prevent this again. The only thing keeping me going right now is the end result..... this is more painful and sad then it is fun right now.... thanks again <3

I know the feeling! Persevence is key in this hobby though, can't wait to see the end result!

ok, so i think ive salvaged some stuff, still need to go get the flex tubing and stuff tomorrow at my home depot.... overflow is partialy broken, but u cant see it and it wont affect anything, no biggie. Well, the tank is just sitting here with stagnant water -_- turning on my pumps, but that water is gonna get CHILLY. oh well..... thanks for sticking with me through the highs and lows guys!

Powerheads are enough to keep an unstocked tank going, maybe just move one up for now to keep surface agitation up. You can always stick the heater right in the display for now.

but then my sump water gets cold :/ oh well, im just turning on the pumps and nothing else. the cycle hasnt even started, and i dont have a hydrometer so my salinity is low.

nothing, its so my sump fit correctly with space for my dosing pumps/controllers. Ill probably make it a nice countertop with a piece of glass and a vase or something.

just got the rest of the stuff i ordered, RO/DI fitting, fish food and refractometer. Im kind of sketched out by this refractometer because i calibrated it to 1.026 like it says but it says that my tank water is at 1.026 also and i randomly added some amount of salt when i first started the tank. Either im amazing, or im doing something wrong... i will try it again once the bottle has heated up (temp might have had something to do with it)

actually the algae in the tank has skyrocketed. almost all the rocks are tinted brown and the main live rock is dark brown/red. i see the hermits eating away but they have barely made a dent in the 24 hrs.

Any idea what might have caused the bloom? Maybe your cycle will come into a crescendo and will reach an equilibrium with excess nutrient production and bacterial consumption. That's what boils down in to your initial cycle. The algae/hermit thing is nutrient recycling and will speed things up a bit, although the hermits are smart enough to not eat ALL the algae because they think they would starve to death if they did. A lot of wild animals in captivity know this.

Ive seen this kind of bloom in a couple of aquariums and i think it was just the end of the cycle. All the readings came to 0 and the algae bloomed on the same day. I could probably add fish in, but money has stopped me.

just ordered:
20 Dwarf Ceriths
9 Nassarius
9 Florida Ceriths
3 Large Nerite and 3 Small to medium Nerites
1 chaeto ball

from reefcleaners.org

Also bought a small light from homedepot for the sump and will be putting the rocks on some eggcrate+pvc legs so it doesnt collect bad stuff.... I might also take some out because there is almost too much for the sump.

Will be re-doing my sloppy wiring job so that everything is connected on the top underside of the stand. Pics when all this has come together
