Tee-Tiny Anemone

I found an Anemone in my Hang-on refugium. He's about 2 inches long, was probably in the last batch off Chaetomorpha that I bought. It likes being up at the top under the light, so I hope he's getting enough. Is there anything in particular he needs, being part of a fish only tank? Will he survive in a fish only tank? Food is also a question I have. Does my tank and fuge already have enough in the water for him to filter out? I have a ton of Pods and other things in my fuge. What else do they eat?

What color is it? If it is brown with a thin long stalk with long tenticles, it sound like aptasia. If it is you dont want it. If it gets in you main tank somehow it will multiply and become a nusience. Look up aptasia and see if that is what it is. If it is not normal ones usually eat meat. I hand feed mine shrimp. Good Luck.

Can you get a picture? It could be a majano anemone (often green, brown, or reddish with a shape resembling bubble-tip anemones) or Aiptasia (clearish to brown, pointed tentacles, long and skinny overall) - if your tank is a FO and you like the look of the anemone, even if it's one of these pest species you could keep it -- it will multiply quickly, even if you don't directly feed it. It will feed on detritus, pods, fish food etc.

If you have small, delicate fish or plan to upgrade to a reef later on, and you ID this as a pest species, it's best to kill it before it multiplies. Once they get a foothold in the tank, these animals are nearly impossible to completely eradicate.

Yep, probably a pest anemone more than anything. If it's just a fish only, maybe you'll find it an interesting addition, but sometimes they can harm other corals. pictures would surely help.
