Teflon tape on Union Ball Valves?

Just a quick afterthought: should I be using teflon tape on the Union Ball Valve threads? (or is it okay as is).
thanks,
Frank

you dont want to use teflo tape on the union itself. unions work on compression, in pvc there is a rubber o ring. if the part that attaches to the pipe is threaded rather than slip there should be teflon there.

Scott,
all the pvc are slip connections. I was referring to the threaded unions. So you're saying the inner o-rings should suffice?
Frank

The o-rings are the only joint that should see water, the threaded collars are only there for compression. If you are getting leaking passed the orings that means that your collars are either not tight enough, your gasket isn't seated right or the two sides of the union are off kilter.
