Tell me about a Master Recirculation Pump 1073.030 ???

Herbie

Yep,that one
Hey,
Can anyone shed some light on this pump/powerhead. This is the small one ........Tunze Master Recirculation Pump 1073.030. It has a variable pump out put of 105-792 gph ? How is this adjusted?
I am thinking of powering a Remora Pro with this pump vs. using a mag 3,5 or 7. I am looking for something Smaller, QUIETER, and stronger if needed for adjustment. The Variable thing seems like a good idea. Will this pump get louder if it is "throttled back"?
Could anyone who has this pump........compare it to a Mag 3,5 pump, for me as far as size, noise and power??? This will be sitting INSIDE of my 37, Driving a Remora Pro Skimmer, so I am trying to hide it the best I can.
It is a lot more $$$ than a mag but if its quieter and stronger with the ability to adjust the output, it may be worth it to me.
Here is a discription of it...........

Thanks..........Herbie

I woudn't do it, I am pretty sure it is bigger than a Mag drive. It is best to use the manufatcurer recommended pump with the skimmer.

Thanks for the quick reply..........
I was pretty certain the Tunze 1073.030 was smaller than a Mag 3,5 or 7. At least "on paper" it is. Here are the size specs.

Tunze 1073.030 ------ 4.0" x 3.5" x 2.95"

Mag 3,5 and 7 ------ 5.0" x 3.8" x 4.2"

Those are the manufactures specs for the pumps. Any way you measure up the pump specs up.........the Tunze is smaller, at least "on paper"!
I was just wondering if anyone could verify this. I figured, if someone had a Tunze 1073.030, at some time, they probably would have had a Mag pump sometime also.

Roger, is there any way you could check the dimensions if you have any "official" spec sheets? Also..........How is the Tunze 1073.030 variable output ??? Is there a valve or something built in?
Does anyone run one of these pump/powerheads ??????
Thanks for your time..............Herbie

This pump is generally used as a return pump and it is harder to gauge noise in that application but I haven't heard any complaints. I haven't used a mag pump in a long time so I was working off what i remembered. I will try to check it out definitively this weekend. I don't have any other measurement info. In this app. it may look kind of goofy cause the thing is covered in suction cups on the back and bottom. This could be a plus because you could securely mount it but it might look weird. Their is a valve built into the housing of the pump.

Thanks for the info Roger. I thought all those suction cup and bracket assy might hold it in the tank good, and keep it isolated, for less noise. I am looking for a strong powerhead that is less obtrusive than a Mag, for both size and noise. It has to go IN the tank.
I really want a Tunze DOC skimmer, but I dont have enough room to spare inside my "small" 37 gallon. I am not sure how a classic DOC skimmer would work for me......still thinking that one over. I am not running a sump on this tank.....................yet!. I wish Tunze made a HOT Skimmer. It would be a popular skimmer, I am sure.
Anyway, thanks for your time and info...............Herbie

The classic DOC shades a lot of light so I don't like it for in tank use. I think a Nano Reefpack would be a good choice though. We don't make hang ons because it is virtually impossible to make one that couldn't overflow, this is a big concern in Europe where most people live in apartments.

Reefrookie2006, I don't know anything about those skimmers, I simply couldn't say.
