tell me about your mud

I'm trying some now, could be snake oil but on a new set up, put about a gallon of the CaribSea Mineral Mud in the fuge. Saw immediate action from the pods, all that was in there was some cheato, I had not noticed that many bugs crawing/swimming around before. Make up seems good, fine silt and fine sand. Will use some for my shaveing brushes when I move them over, since they like aged substrate.

for info go to www.ecosystemaquarium.com he has quite a bit on the mud that goes into his system. Just keep in mind that he is selling the mud and the system that goes along with it. My understanding is that you have to change out 30-50% of it on an annual basis..... FWIW I have read throgh it and much other information and will probably go with a DSB in my fuge with Cheato...Lots of "snake-oil" comments regarding the expensive mud products. also check out r shimek's site regarding sand beds and mud. He has done quite a bit of research regarding DSB's and mud.

I have been using it for over a year (Miracle Mud). I am pleased with it although it is very expensive. I have really good growth on all corals, SPS,LPS,Softies and zoos. I don't know about it being "Snake Oil" . It has worked just fine and has definitely enhanced my reef. I believe the mud works good but the only regret I have is purchasing the ecosystem sump. I would have rather just built my own and purchased the mud separate. The sump is quite pricey. HTH

Jgarrison. I was looking at the ecosystem aquarium website. I believe the information you are looking for is in the articles section. If I recall correctly Mike Paletta has quite a few articles in there. It states that you change 25% after 18 months and 25% thereafter each year...
